Do you feel lost, confused, and totally disgruntled as the world feels like it is passing you by but you’re holding all of the strings together. Getting to this point has taken a lot of you, maybe even feeling like its taken all of you. You have used so much courage, perseverance, and resilience to get to this point. This is the place where it stops. This is where you find what you have been looking for: the support, the encouragement, the ear to listen, the shoulder to cry. This is the space where you feel safe to be able to be the most vulnerable that you have ever been.

I believe that we all develop and possess our own unique stories that give our lives meaning. We are each the authors and experts of our own stories, but sometimes we can get stuck in stories that restrict our growth and possibilities. I strive to provide a safe and non-judgmental place for you to explore those stories and to rewrite them so that they better support your goals and values, empowering you to live out those values in meaningful and fulfilling ways.

I know how challenging it can be to reach out and start the process of therapy. I enjoy working with clients who experience a variety of needs from their therapist. This includes processing traumas, minimizing depressive symptoms, more effectively managing symptoms of anxiety, and more! It is important to come into a counseling setting with an open mind, and to remember that therapy is a very vulnerable process. Developing trust within a counseling relationship is an important foundation to reaching your goals in the counseling setting.

Making the decision to see a therapist can be difficult and scary. It's understandable that many women put aside this personal work to focus on people or situations that need attention. I meet with women who share about their struggle with anxiety, depression, sadness, grief, guilt, shame, angst, trauma, exhaustion, sleep problems, over-extending for others, feeling betrayed, feeling unseen or unheard, sometimes having difficulty managing chronic pain along with emotional pain. Healing can happen in many ways during therapy, but I assure you, it does happen. If any of this resonates with you, contact me today to schedule a session.

When the same issues keep showing up no matter how hard you try to change them, it’s draining. Therapy gives you space to slow down, understand the patterns beneath the surface, and learn healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. I’ve worked across multiple levels of care, which gives me a clear understanding of how past experiences, relationships, systems, and family dynamics shape the way we move through life. I work with trauma and attachment wounds, anxiety, depression, and complex family dynamics.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
