School changes, divorce, loss , mental illness and trauma are some of my specialities.
Do you have a child or adolescent that is suffering from anxiety or depression? Transitions can be difficult and result in symptoms, stress and unhappiness for some youth. I work to help each person get through their challenges and find their strengths. Families can benefit from a therapist who helps them to process their feelings and experiences. Parents can feel overwelmed when their child is suffering.

Ask yourself these three questions... 1) Am I happy? 2) Am I doing what's best for me? 3) Am I in control of my life? My approach as a counselor is to be encouraging, supportive and collaborate; and help individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, marital issues and job stress. You are stronger, braver, and more resilient then your mind gives you credit for; but sometimes those thoughts and feelings can overwhelm us to the point where we lose ourselves and the things and people we value most. As a therapist, my goal is to allow you to see your emotions and thoughts as just that and to reestablish the connection between your unique and individual values and the behaviors that support these. We as humans are all susceptible to emotional pain, but how we deal with this pain- be it the pain of change, loss , or inexplicable anxiety and hopelessness- can define whether we evolve from these or stay stuck in it.

My areas of experience range from Parenting, Children/Teens, Anxiety, Depression, Stress Management, Grief / Loss , Anger, Guilt, Addictions, Mental Disorders, Trauma and Violence, to Abuse, Neglect and Abandonment issues, Family Problems, Pre-Marital, Marital Problems, Divorce, Remarriage, Financial, Vocational, and Self-Esteem issues.
At some point in our lives we will experience emotional and psychological distress. Most people will try to avoid or go through their distress without seeking help. People choose to do this because they are not sure how therapy will help them. I view psychotherapy as a collaborative, co-creative process between the client and therapist. If you or your family have been experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, or just going through difficult times, please allow me to support and guide you in the healing process. Together, we can face and overcome life's stressors! Evening hours are available!

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
