Out for Maternity Leave Until October 2025 Do you feel like you're stuck no matter how hard you try to move forward? Our brains can leave us feeling like we are at the mercy of our past. When disturbing or traumatizing events happen, those events can become locked in our nervous system as if we are frozen in time with all same uncomfortable feelings. People, situations, or events can subconsciously trigger those stuck memories leaving you feeling anxious, paranoid, irritable, depressed, or otherwise fearful without an obvious cause. Together we can heal your trauma and allow you to move on from your pain.

I understand that asking for emotional help is one of the more difficult things you might ever do. I tell my clients that if they were in physical discomfort or pain they would call their doctor for relief, and to call a professional counselor is also a way to insure their health and well-being. With their hard work and my guidance I assure my clients that they will be able to work through past or current issues and will not have to remain stuck, that they can change.

Between 11 years as a cop and nearly a decade as a therapist, I’ve seen it all — the good, the bad, and the “you cannot make this shit up” kind of stories. I’m not here to sit back, nod, and hand out generic advice. I’m here to get in the trenches with you, cut through the noise, and maybe even laugh at the absurdity of it all along the way.

Life is hard, sometimes people need someone to listen when they are dealing with life transitions, loss, grief, family stress, job stress or relationship issues. People may benefit from talking to a mental health therapist. I have worked with individuals, families and couples for nine years, guiding them to work through anxiety, depression and other concerns. I have worked in the social work field for over twenty years helping young families become strong and resilient with early education opportunities and community resources.

I approach therapy as a warm, collaborative journey built on authenticity and respect. I strive to address immediate concerns while also delving into deeper aspects of your life, all in a way that honors your personal experience. I draw upon my experiences as a biracial Asian American social worker to deeply connect and support multicultural individuals, fostering a safe and warm space with you at the center. I understand the anxiety and fear that come with life transitions. While pain is a part of life, our work together will aim to reduce needless suffering and strengthen meaning-making by committing to value-aligned actions.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
