I'm a seasoned psychotherapist with more than 30 years' experience. I offer a safe and non-judgmental space in which you can freely explore whatever has felt dissatisfying, obsolete, self-defeating or even toxic in your life. Maybe you’re seeking to improve the way you've responded to transitions or traumas, whether recently or many years ago. Maybe you want to figure out how to “jettison” habits, relationships or lifestyles that no longer work for you. Or maybe you want to break free from repeating cycles or patterns that haven’t served you successfully in the past.

I help people navigate sleep issues, life transitions, depression, anxiety, and ADHD.
A good therapist is someone you can talk with about what's most important to you, even if it takes time to build that trust. People often describe me as kind, candid, and an excellent listener. I have a good memory for life details and helping my clients remember their strengths during times of stress or self-doubt.

As a therapist, I provide culturally sensitive and thoughtful therapy to help individuals and couples navigate Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, PTSD, OCD, eating disorders, ADHD, and LGBTQ+ issues. I understand how hard it can be to find a therapist that seems relatable or trustworthy. I work particularly well with individuals navigating trauma, relationships, and identity looking for a therapist that "gets it". This may be an overwhelming point in your life, but pursuing psychotherapy can be one of the most transformative experiences you can take to heal & grow.

Too often psychotherapy focuses on causality, pathology and cures. However, rather than being "sick" or 'broken", often we are just lost inside ourselves or relationships. Everyone is a unique person with their own story, experience and perspective. The goal of therapy is to achieve a deeper awareness of where we are, to discover internal meaning for our many experiences, and to experience a life worth living. While working towards that awareness, I feel that it's also important to teach healthier coping skills to assist in dealing with the anxiety and day to day stressors that bring individuals to therapy.

I'm a seasoned psychologist who provides culturally responsive psychotherapy to adults of all ages. I work collaboratively with clients from a relational/psychodynamic framework, but I'm also skilled working in a more structured way to address specific and short-term goals. Above all, I believe the relationship between client and therapist is the central element in treatment. The relationship is the medium by which therapy helps clients foster a strong sense of self-worth and identity, increase happiness and life satisfaction, improve the quality of their relationships, and understand their feelings, motives, and behavior.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), and Art and Yoga Therapist practicing in the Chicago Area. I work to provide a safe and collaborative space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to facilitate meaningful change in your life. The root of my work is assisting others to discover, strengthen, and grow inner peace. If you feel grounded in yourself, it's so much easier to ride out the obstacles - big and small - that life throws at you. I believe the process of change is not a straight line or one-size-fits-all model.

Now you’re a capable adult running on shallow sleep, a clenched jaw, tension headaches, and constant irritability.
Therapy with me is active, structured, and direct. I’m quick to see patterns and help interrupt them before they turn into another spiral. We focus on restoring nervous-system steadiness, reducing internal pressure, and helping your mind and body work together again, without relying on willpower or pushing harder.

My experience has primarily been working with adults and older adults who are coping with anxiety, depression, complex grief, loss (of any kind), end-of-life planning, major life transitions, caregiving stress, and chronic or terminal illness. I am passionate about facilitating empathic conversations which address the social stigma and fear around death and dying, and helping clients identify what it means to have “a good death.” I am also interested in working with young adult (18+) and adult clients, particularly those facing “quarter-life crises,” relationship issues, and difficulty with substance use.

I also have a certification in CBT-I that helps clients with long standing insomnia/ sleep issues.
Therapy isn’t about performing insight. It’s about learning how to respond to your life differently. A lot of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable adults who are tired of repeating the same patterns, in relationships, at work, or in how they speak to themselves. You may understand why you do what you do, but that understanding hasn’t necessarily translated into change. That’s where the work begins.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
