For example, in treating a
marriage
I include both partners.
We all experience emotional and physical difficulties from time to time. Often we are able to deal with these life experiences ourselves. Sometimes, however, it is not possible for us to resolve these challenges alone. In these situations professional help is appropriate. Until fifty years ago anyone experiencing psychological and/or physical stress was treated individually. Family therapy grew out of a simple but profound idea: People in crisis can often be best understood and treated within their own famiies. As a certified family therapist, as well as a certified psychoanalyst, I have the education necessary to see both famiies and individuals.

Making the decision whether to stay in a
marriage
or leave can be a demanding process.
Divorce is a difficult transition. It is an emotional upheaval that unleashes a multitude of fears and losses. In my 25 years of experience, the men and women I have counseled who were facing divorce, showed a marked improvement when they had a supported safe place to work through their fears, mourn their losses, and move on with their lives. I offer counseling to help reduce the anxiety and de-escalate these emotions while helping you to have a better understanding of the legal process. My extensive legal knowledge and experience can save you time and money as you navigate the legal system.

Accepting New Clients. I specialize in treating individuals, couples, and families who struggle with adjusting to life transitions (including managing cultural differences). Changes like preparing for
marriage
, starting a new job, relocating, starting/ending a relationship, and having a baby can bring unexpected challenges. Are conflicts occurring more often with those you love? Have your efforts to support them caused more arguments than providing comfort? Are you worried that things will continue to get worse?

I have spent most of my life as a spiritual guide, teacher and psychotherapist. I have worked in Ireland, England, Wales and Nigeria over the past four decades. I have been very fortunate to have great teachers but my best teachers are those people that I have been most privileged to companion through their life challenges. You deserve happiness. It's what we're ultimately looking for when we make the decision to reach out for help. As a licensed psychotherapist and life coach, I've helped hundreds of people in the last 30 years and the one thing they all have in common is they simply want inner peace; a more contented life. What that looks like is different for each person but I want you to know that a happier life is absolutely possible. For you, finding the right therapist or coach, the right fit, is key. I combine the research-proven methods of psychotherapy with the results-focused approach of life coaching to get you where you want to be.

If you believe that eating disorders are incurable, you have been misled by one of many misconceptions about these disorders. Eating disorders are 100% curable in 80% of cases, when treated in an effective and timely manner. Anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder erode and fragment an individual's sense of Self, impairing self-care. self-regulation and self-esteem. Effective recovery re-awakens and integrates the patient's fragmented self, creating a sustained sense of empowered self-confidence in all life spheres...beyond eating and weight-control. Successful recovery offers a life-changing investment now, and for the future.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
