In treating the whole individual, my approach is psychodynamic, cognitive and behavioral, with a focus on the quality of the therapist/patient therapeutic relationship, and family system support and involvement.
If you believe that eating disorders are incurable, you have been misled by one of many misconceptions about these disorders. Eating disorders are 100% curable in 80% of cases, when treated in an effective and timely manner. Anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder erode and fragment an individual's sense of Self, impairing self-care. self-regulation and self-esteem. Effective recovery re-awakens and integrates the patient's fragmented self, creating a sustained sense of empowered self-confidence in all life spheres...beyond eating and weight-control. Successful recovery offers a life-changing investment now, and for the future.

I am a Board Certified Psychoanalyst, Board Certified Family Therapist ,and Board Certified Clinical Psychologist.
We all experience emotional and physical difficulties from time to time. Often we are able to deal with these life experiences ourselves. Sometimes, however, it is not possible for us to resolve these challenges alone. In these situations professional help is appropriate. Until fifty years ago anyone experiencing psychological and/or physical stress was treated individually. Family therapy grew out of a simple but profound idea: People in crisis can often be best understood and treated within their own famiies. As a certified family therapist , as well as a certified psychoanalyst, I have the education necessary to see both famiies and individuals.

With clinical training from Northwestern University's The Family Institute, I have had experience in a variety of settings including a residential group home, inpatient hospital, and most recently at a therapeutic day school.
As someone who began my own therapy journey as a therapy-resistant teen, I believe that trusting, down-to-earth, and relatable relationships with my clients are incredibly important for instilling growth. It is through personal experience and innate passion for changing the narrative around mental health that I have fostered a strength to understand, connect with, and treat young people in crisis. I work with Children (10 y.o.+), Adolescents, Young Adults, and Adults who are motivated to find empowerment to change their patterns, mindset, and overall wellness through mind, body, and energetics.

Treatment includes family work, skills building, and advocacy with the school.
I work with children, adolescents, young adults, adults, and families who struggle with issues of anxiety, depression, confidence, and interpersonal relationships. The number one aspect of successful treatment is a strong/trusting relationship. I connect with clients through sports metaphors, movies, real life scenarios, and getting to understand their interests. Everyone has a story so I believe it is important to include family during phases of treatment, to best understand the client's story. In addition, I believe the family is a necessary part of the therapy team, therefore family members are included in phases of treatment to ultimately help my client reach their goals.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
