I am a dedicated therapist who works with individuals, couples, and families through transformative journeys towards growth and resilience. My unique clinical focus is upon adolescent boys (11-17) , men (18+), and couples. I recognize the critical importance of identity formation and self-esteem in the lives of young men. Through a supportive and empowering approach, I guide adolescent boys on a journey of self-discovery, helping them develop a sense of self, navigate peer relationships, and establish healthy boundaries. I also assist couples to navigate pre-marital issues, infidelity recovery, and relationship improvement.

All children and parents deserve support and kindness. Parenting and childhood can feel really vulnerable. You and your child deserve a place where you feel safe and understood. With this foundation, kids can explore healthy and adaptive ways of being, cope with challenging feelings, develop self-esteem and strengthen relationships. And you can feel more confident as a parent during these vulnerable times.

As a professional, and a parent I truly understand there is no greater joy than seeing your child happy and healthy. I also know there is no greater heartache than seeing your child unhappy. For adults: stress, anxiety, and depression can diminish time with families. For children: poor self-esteem, decreased confidence, bullying/ loss, academic struggles or a disability can impact friendships, family, and academics. I specialize in working with people who have experienced a twist in life that they were not expecting. I have 25 years of treating adults and children who want to reclaim control of their lives.

Every person considering therapy is unique - you might be a parent looking for ways to manage your child's behavior, or a child with low self-esteem, someone trying to put a difficult past to rest, or struggling with anxiety and depression. What's important is that you feel a warm, safe and accepting atmosphere to begin sorting out your life, finding balance and a way forward. It's my goal to provide that place of safety and acceptance, then offer you choices of therapy models. There are many paths to change; we'll find the right fit for you.

My specialty is working with people who have issues arising from sexual behavior problems, including sexually abusive behavior, sexual addiction, pornography addiction and Internet addiction. While sex can be a pleasurable part of life, its misuse can lead to infinite heartache and misery. Sexual behavior problems are multifaceted, and are often rooted in an attempt to cope with painful non-sexual issues such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and broken relationships. I work with individuals who have acted out sexually and also with survivors of sexual abuse and trauma.

My desire to become a Social Worker began when I was 12 years old. The Counselor at our school was also our basketball coach. He often smiled, appearing to have fun with my peers. During road trips, I had the chance to get to know more about him. Essentially, I decided I wanted to be him one day. Many of my clients have experienced chronic illness (including cancer, kidney disease), grief/loss, family conflict, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, loss of routine and/or job, trauma, loss of identity. Developing safety & trust will be part of our initial work. Your vulnerabilities/uncertainties are welcome, and you are not alone.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
