OCD
, ADHD, trauma, and mood disorders.
Do you feel overwhelmed, weighed down and stuck in place at times, like you know what you should do, but don’t have the motivation to make it happen? This is the effect depression, anxiety and trauma can have on people, and you’re not alone. As your therapist, my goal is to make you feel heard and understood. Together, we will address your concerns by understanding how your thoughts, emotions, and physical health effect one another. We will seek to understand the underlying source of your symptoms and discover coping mechanisms that work for you through exploring your strengths, interests and support systems.

I have a warm and open relational style that communicates value and worth to my clients. My goal is to elicit your own strengths to make the change that you want. Too much guidance takes away your own autonomy, and too little keeps you confused, but finding the balance is one of the keys to good therapy. My clients appreciate my client centered and accepting style and most of my referrals come from previous client's recommendations. I have extensive experience with addiction, codependence, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues,
OCD
, perfectionism, and ADHD.

Every person that comes to therapy has unique reasons for showing up. Some are bothered by constant intrusive worry thoughts; others are bogged down by intense sadness. Many have experienced events that have proven the world to be unsafe, unjust, and filled with pain. While the intentions for seeking therapy might all be different, almost everyone has the same general goal: to achieve a life worth living. It is my privilege and honor to assist you in figuring out what that looks like.

As a therapist who works with adults, I use a collaborative, very direct and insight-oriented approach to therapy, so that our time together is effective. This enables maximum growth potential for my clients, whatever the reason bringing them to therapy may be. I believe the therapeutic process differs for each individual, and in working together, it is possible to identify the areas of oneself that could benefit from healing, change and improving emotional maturity.

In a word, my approach to therapy is relational. I am at my best when I am centered, curious and genuinely engaged in my client's experience... exploring, nuancing and understanding their unique perspective and the struggles they are facing. I believe in the importance of finding the right "fit" between client and therapist and it is for that reason that I strive to be authentic and fully engaged in every session. My training, areas of specialization and personal style are well suited for those who might be seeking to go deeper in their understanding of themselves and their relationships.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and use a strengths-based approach to therapy. I believe that the healing power of an empathic relationship provides a safe space for an individual to safely explore their values and the ways in which they make meaning out of their experiences and interact with the world. It is within this exploration that individuals can begin to dislodge from stuck patterns and make choices that are in line with their values so they can live out their life in an intentional way.

Hi, my name is Stephanie! Grief is not something we experience in a cookie-cutter manner. If you are struggling through any form of loss, weather loss of a loved one, identity, or pet loss you don’t have to do it alone. Sitting with grief takes strength and vulnerability, which is something we can discover and process together. Discovering your sense of self and identity, particularly during a transitional time in your life can trigger untapped emotions. This may include discovering layers of shame.

How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
