I work best with clients that desire a laid back, collaborative approach. Maybe you have goals in mind or need to process out loud to figure them out. My style is direct and casual, balanced with non-judgment and respect for your autonomy to support your authentic exploration and work towards connection, change, and healing. I have extensive experience with adolescents/young adults (ages 14-30), including queer , trans and nonbinary folks; parents; and adults navigating the general challenges of being a modern human in 2022.

I offer individual therapy, with an array of specialties including anxiety disorders, depression, post traumatic stress syndrome and PTSD, relationship & family conflict, dating challenges, unhealthy/toxic relationships, polyamory/open relationships and LGBTQ +.
As a therapist who works with adults, I use a collaborative, very direct and insight-oriented approach to therapy, so that our time together is effective. This enables maximum growth potential for my clients, whatever the reason bringing them to therapy may be. I believe the therapeutic process differs for each individual, and in working together, it is possible to identify the areas of oneself that could benefit from healing, change and improving emotional maturity.

Our identities are one of the most important aspects of our personalities. The essence of who we are, how we exist in the world, and how we pursue our values creates an inner knowledge of self. Counseling can involve identifying, exploring, and utilizing these ideas to encourage clarity. My approach to therapy begins with unconditional positive regard and stems into several branches of therapy. I specialize in talk and art therapy with adolescents and those who identify as a part of the LGBTQIA + community. I can also walk and talk with you on the Prairie Path in Elmhurst or Glen Ellyn!

Taking steps to get counseling takes a lot of courage. I believe that everyone has their own unique experience and challenges, and that you don't have to go through it on your own. It is my goal to guide you closer to a balanced and happy life. I typically work with adults and adolescents ages 11-17 with anxiety, depression, body image, self-esteem, and coping skills. I am passionate about working with people who are marginalized (BIPOC, LGBTQ +, Women etc.).

I provide individual counseling as well as various group opportunities (Spirituality Groups, Coming Out and other LGBTQ Therapy Groups) to assist on your Healing Journey.
I believe that the psychotherapeutic journey is an Inner Journey ~ one in which we're traveling to find that which we have lost ~ in a word, our Selves. While it is usually some form of disillusion - depression, anxiety, relationship pain ~ that brings us into therapy, we discover that we are on a journey to find home ~ a place of safety, of freedom, of rest. Sooner or later, we learn that the home we are searching for is not to be found outside ourselves but, rather, within. If you are ready to deepen in your own journey, I am here to walk with you.

I have been able to help people who are struggling with an array of personal issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, LGBTQ , caregiver stress, and end of life issues.
I approach the therapeutic relationship from a client-centered lens with an integrative treatment approach. This means that I work with each client to develop a unique treatment plan to address their specific needs. I do not utilize a one size fits all approach and I believe that the client is just as important in this process as the therapist is. I examine all aspects of a client’s perspective including the systems that impact them. Treating the whole person is an important aspect for me in my therapeutic engagement with clients. I believe that every person has value and is worthy of kindness.

I believe everyone needs and deserves a safe space to address barriers preventing them from navigating through life the way they desire, thus I seek to foster safe and comfortable environments for those oppressed and marginalized. Living in unprecedented times, it is especially important to have support, awareness, and knowledge of effective coping skills to manage life's stressors. I believe it’s also important to process the lives we’ve already experienced and explore how this cultivates our current worldview.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
