We often seek therapy yearning for connection and understanding. My goal is to provide a safe space where we can work together as a team to help you process your experiences, validate the emotions attached to these experiences, and discover your own strengths and capacity for coping through life’s challenges. We as humans are inherently resilient even when things like shame, trauma, isolation, addiction, depression, and
anxiety
try to disconnect us from ourselves and others. We will work together to find compassion for yourself in restoring this connection.

I have extensive experience helping clients manage mood disorders,
anxiety
, and executive functioning problems, as well as narcissistic injuries and behaviors.
With over 15 years experience as a licensed psychologist, I think of the therapeutic relationship as a method for understanding the self. To that end, behavior patterns can be explored, internal experience can shift with the movement towards change. Perhaps you are caught in the same cycle and feeling frustrated. You may be adjusting to a life or career transition. Stuff from the past is triggering and you might not understand why you feel the way you do. We can explore and understand the meanings in a safe and creative way.

You're ready to feel better, deal with some issues, make some changes, or improve your life in some way. Know that whatever it is that is leading you to counseling, you are not alone. Women seek out counseling at various different times in life for a wide variety of reasons. Sometimes, just having a counselor to work with for a while can make it easier to navigate life's journeys and issues vs going it alone and that's why I'm here...to help guide you along whatever you're trying to figure out or improve for yourself - in ways that are best for you!

I believe everyone needs and deserves a safe space to address barriers preventing them from navigating through life the way they desire, thus I seek to foster safe and comfortable environments for those oppressed and marginalized. Living in unprecedented times, it is especially important to have support, awareness, and knowledge of effective coping skills to manage life's stressors. I specialize in working with adults dealing with a wide array of difficulties including depression,
anxiety
, interpersonal relationships, and emotion regulation.
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and use a strengths-based approach to therapy. I believe that the healing power of an empathic relationship provides a safe space for an individual to safely explore their values and the ways in which they make meaning out of their experiences and interact with the world. It is within this exploration that individuals can begin to dislodge from stuck patterns and make choices that are in line with their values so they can live out their life in an intentional way.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
