Accepting New Clients ***Telehealth (Video/Phone) Sessions Available*** Walking through the doors is the first and most important step in one’s journey of therapy. I am passionate about helping children, adolescents, adults, and families through difficult times and supporting them through those times. I know that each client is their own person, so I meet each client where they are emotionally and mentally, modifying my treatment approach to best aid each client in achieving their goals.

I work best with clients that desire a laid back, collaborative approach. Maybe you have goals in mind or need to process out loud to figure them out. My style is direct and casual, balanced with non-judgment and respect for your autonomy to support your authentic exploration and work towards connection, change, and healing. I have extensive experience with adolescents/young adults (ages 14-30), including queer, trans and nonbinary folks; parents; and adults navigating the general challenges of being a modern human in 2022.

Taking steps to get counseling takes a lot of courage. I believe that everyone has their own unique experience and challenges, and that you don't have to go through it on your own. It is my goal to guide you closer to a balanced and happy life. I typically work with adults and adolescents ages 11-17 with anxiety, depression, body image, self-esteem, and coping skills. I am passionate about working with people who are marginalized (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Women etc.).

We all start somewhere. And we all have progress to make. Our past and present experiences inform our future. Understanding our past helps us create a coherent narrative of who we are today. It sets us up for better success, both now and in the future. I enjoy working with clients who are looking to explore past and present relational dynamics, work through past traumas, find inner peace, or strengthen their connection with others. I value the opportunity to guide clients on their path toward self-exploration and I use evidence-based practices to tailor my approach to individual needs.

With my background in Marriage & Family Therapy, I possess the expertise to guide and support the entire family system. Raising a child is a journey that requires support from a village, and I am here to be a part of that village. I provide a nurturing environment where both children and parents can share concerns, ask questions, and receive guidance without fear of judgment. I support parents to improve communication, build trust, and strengthen the parent-child bond, allowing you to navigate the joys and challenges of parenthood with confidence. Additionally, I enjoy working with women who are navigating all stages of life.

I know how difficult it can be to take those first steps in seeking out a new therapist. Life can be challenging in many ways and can be difficult navigating alone. I take great care in providing a safe and collaborative environment for my clients to explore their lives and various obstacles in a nonjudgmental and compassionate way. Some of the modalities I use include CBT, DBT, ART, IFS, Psychoanalytic, and Holistic. Building a trusting relationship and witnessing each client's journey is what I find most fulfilling about my work as a therapist.

Our identities are one of the most important aspects of our personalities. The essence of who we are, how we exist in the world, and how we pursue our values creates an inner knowledge of self. Counseling can involve identifying, exploring, and utilizing these ideas to encourage clarity. My approach to therapy begins with unconditional positive regard and stems into several branches of therapy. I specialize in talk and art therapy with adolescents and those who identify as a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I can also walk and talk with you on the Prairie Path in Elmhurst or Glen Ellyn!

People that are looking for professional mental health services come from all ethnicities, backgrounds, and walks of life. Some are in the twilight of their lives, while others are just getting started. Some need help with delicate relationship struggles, while others may find that they are searching for a diagnosis to help them finally make sense of things. Then there are those that are just looking for someone to talk to about what is going on in their lives. What you need to remember though, is that no matter what you are looking to get help with, you are not alone. The first step can be the hardest, but here you are!

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
