I know how difficult it can be to take those first steps toward seeking out a therapist. Life can be challenging in many ways and can be difficult to navigate alone. I take great care in providing a safe and collaborative environment for my clients to explore their lives and various obstacles in a nonjudgmental and compassionate way. Some of the modalities I use include CBT, DBT, ACT , Psychoanalytic, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Building a trusting relationship and witnessing each client's journey is what I find most fulfilling about my work as a therapist.

I've spent several years helping my clients become more comfortable with the uncomfortable and learn ways to build self compassion & self acceptance .
I’m glad you’re thinking about therapy. Therapy can be amazing and when the fit is right it can offer a safe space to begin exploring who you truly are. It can help build your sense of self awareness and begin to knock down walls you’ve built out of necessity and survival. That’s the truth of it all, you’re a survivor because you’re here. I help my clients understand all parts of themselves and uncover what parts may be holding them back, while learning tools to help break these disruptive cycles. There are no bad parts, and you (or your child) aren’t broken. I’d love to help, feel free to email, or call me when you’re ready.

CBT, ACT , DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, and/or Motivational Interviewing have been highly beneficial for helping clients.
Feeling stuck? Trying to get back the focus, direction, and passion in life? In an environment free of judgment and rich in support, I believe it is important to utilize my client’s strengths to help empower the change process. By identifying values and specific goals, together we create a path to lead us in the desired direction. With my background in the education field, I have seen how children, as well as, adults struggle with the routine of the day when there is something heavy on their mind. I strive to help my clients identify how to remove this heaviness, and lead the life they have been wanting.

A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.—J. A. Shedd. Are you or someone you care about feeling anxious, sad, worried or maybe just stuck? Perhaps it’s a relationship conflict, school anxiety or a phase of life issue. Do the thoughts of what to do or how to help just leave you feeling more confused and exhausted? Life can be challenging! It is normal for all of us to need support, encouragement and feedback at different points in our lives. It takes courage to face our personal challenges and not be “stuck in the harbor”.

My passion is understanding stored childhood trauma and the long-term effects it can have on adults; particularly as it relates to addiction issues. Unresolved traumatic experiences very often render a person with feelings of anxiety and depression; particularly for those who were never given the appropriate tools and support to process their trauma. These emotional states can lead to poor coping skills in our efforts to meet life’s challenges, and very often anxiety and depression can lead us to feeling incapable of helping ourselves or ever changing our circumstances and clearly seeing our potential.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

Is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy evidence-based?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is one of many approaches within the field of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidence-based treatment framework that has been shown to be effective in treating many mental health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD.

What is the difference between Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Despite being part of the CBT family of therapies, ACT differs from other approaches within this field in several important ways: First, it emphasizes acceptance over change; second, it focuses on present moment experiences rather than past experiences or future events; third it focuses on what clients can do rather than what they cannot do; and fourth it emphasizes values rather than symptoms as targets for change.

What credentials will a certified Acceptance and Commitment Therapy have?

A certified Acceptance and Commitment therapist in Glen Ellyn will have completed specialized training in this approach at a university accredited by The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT).

How long does ACT typically take?

ACT is a relatively short-term therapy that focuses on helping you accept the things you can't change and commit to the things you can. It typically takes about eight weeks of weekly sessions with a therapist to complete the entire process. You may need to see your therapist weekly or biweekly, depending on the circumstances surrounding your situation.
