I believe that it takes courage for a person to reach out for support and that the first steps for counseling support can be difficult. Clinical specialty includes work with children, adolescents, adults, and families on issues of anxiety, academic and behavioral issues, emotion regulation, mood disorders, trauma, adoption, divorce/separation, coparenting, and family conflicts. My approach is interpersonal and strength-based utilizing various psychotherapeutic modalities such as CBT, Family Systems, Mindfulness, Play Therapy, Person Centered, Trauma focused, and Solution Focused.

Mary D’Adam, LCPC, CADC, CCTP is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with a specialty in treating addiction. Mary uses a non-judgmental, strengths-based approach in her work with all clients. Mary believes that an authentic, therapist-client relationship is vital to the success of the therapeutic change process and is diligent in creating an atmosphere that facilitates this connection in her therapy room. Mary has a passion for working with individuals struggling with substance use disorders, survivors of traumatic experiences and young adults navigating life transitions.

My work is my passion. In a non-judgemental way, I allow each person to share their own personal story with me. In an initial telephone consultation, I take the time with each person to talk, to make certain I know what issues they need help with, and to make certain that person feels comfortable talking with me. In my work with clients, I respect them and their personal values and beliefs while helping them to achieve their own personal goals. I create a comfortable office atmosphere for clients in which to talk about their personal issues.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a bachelor’s degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Saint Xavier University and a Master of Social Work degree from Governors State University. I have extensive experience in the healthcare field. My areas of interest include depression, anxiety, loss/bereavement, aging issues, chronic health issues, stress management and life transitions. Using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) along with the theoretical foundation of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) I bring a strengths-based approach to the therapeutic relationship.

I am extremely passionate about building rapport and collaborating with clients to create an environment of acceptance, safety, and support. While therapy can be overwhelming at times, my main goal is to provide clients with a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere throughout their therapeutic journey.

I have extensive counseling experience working with children, adolescents and their families. I have training in Art therapy and Play therapy to direct children through the counseling process. Children are better able to explore and relieve their symptoms through expressive therapy techniques. These expressive therapies work in conjunction with behavior and cognitive behavioral techniques to allow children and adolescents the ability to understand their problems and solve them. In addition, I work with the family and the parents to ensure comprehensive treatment and support systems. I have also worked with adults on parenting issues, coping strategies, and marital issues.

Each day of our lives can be described as a journey. At times, there are minor obstacles and at other times there appears to be mountains that we face. These situations can increase symptoms of anxiety and depression. With that said, we can forget where our inner strengths come from and we can lose sight of the meaning in our lives. It can be helpful to seek guidance from a therapist. A therapist can assist an individual in rediscovering inner strengths and developing the motivation to scale those mountains.

Coming to counseling is a difficult decision to make. It takes strength to admit we need help.
