I have extensive counseling experience working with
children
, adolescents and their families. I have training in Art therapy and Play therapy to direct
children
through the counseling process.
Children
are better able to explore and relieve their symptoms through expressive therapy techniques. These expressive therapies work in conjunction with behavior and cognitive behavioral techniques to allow
children
and adolescents the ability to understand their problems and solve them. In addition, I work with the family and the parents to ensure comprehensive treatment and support systems. I have also worked with adults on parenting issues, coping strategies, and marital issues.

I believe that, without exception, every individual carries within, the capacity required for healing to occur. As a therapist, it is my honor and privilege to help clients and their families uncover and understand the meanings and feelings associated with their symptoms. Whether the primary client is a
child
, adolescent, or adult, I work collaboratively with couples/parents to create a treatment plan that is right for the family as a whole. From this perspective we can then work together to discover more adaptive and creative ways to solve problems, build relationships, and live rich and fulfilling lives.

Each day of our lives can be described as a journey. At times, there are minor obstacles and at other times there appears to be mountains that we face. These situations can increase symptoms of anxiety and depression. With that said, we can forget where our inner strengths come from and we can lose sight of the meaning in our lives. It can be helpful to seek guidance from a therapist. A therapist can assist an individual in rediscovering inner strengths and developing the motivation to scale those mountains.

I enjoy spending time with my wife, three

, and a great novel.
“Most people seek therapy because something isn’t working. Sometimes people do not feel equipped to handle life’s problems – work stress, family stress, health issues, etc. Many individuals feel stuck trying to solve problems the same way when those solutions are no longer helpful. This pain can leave someone suffering and feeling helpless.” I want to help you gain perspective and new knowledge and skills for change. Often this involves being more aware and present in the moment. Many people do not recognize the power they have to create positive change in their lives. I will help empower you to find your strengths and make change.

child
struggling to thrive in school or at home? I’m here to help. What I often see in my clients is that their passion and energy is crowded out by the confusion and stress of life. Teens and young adults often find it so helpful to have someone outside of the situation that is objective and caring to help them gain perspective and feel supported and understood. My goal is to provide a place where you come to feel heard and get some real direction.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
