I treat adults on a wide variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, eating disorders, trauma and many other issues.
My style is collaborative and based in the belief that we all have the power to help ourselves. I provide a safe and supportive environment by consistently being warm, accepting and empathic, no matter what the issue. In therapy, we will work together to develop an objective perspective in order to identify what you want to change, and what you cannot change. We will then take action to build insight into your life situation, improve coping with difficult problems, and help you try new behaviors to reach your goal of feeling better.

I was recently awarded a certificate as a Specialist in the treatment of trauma .
"We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time" T. S Eliot I believe that self-knowledge and understanding leads to self-compassion. Gently exploring aspects of the your experience within a collaborative relationship with a therapist in a warm, safe, nurturing, and empowering environment can move you toward a greater sense of connection to self. This can lead to more authentic, connected relationships with others-which as human beings is what we ultimately seek.

My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma -informed, and pragmatic.
There can be moments or events in life that overwhelm our capacity to cope, get in the way of being our authentic selves, or being fully present in our lives. Many are dealing with the impact of the pandemic and navigating this time of social change. During challenges, people may turn to behaviors and ways of being that no longer serve them well. Perhaps this describes your situation, or maybe you are feeling stuck. I am here to help you find your way back into a meaningful life, whatever that means to you. I work with people who are dealing with depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship concerns, and trauma .

As a culturally affirming trauma therapist, my highest intention is to restore dignity to those who have been marginalized or exiled from our human community because of their traumatic experiences. I see therapy as a journey we embark on together, where I am invited not only to tread the well-worn paths of our shared humanity, but also to walk reverently into the sacred spaces of my clients' life stories. I approach this work with humility, deep respect, and a fierce commitment to my clients' well-being. I am known to hang in there when things get tough, and I enjoy a healthy dose of playfulness and humor in every relationship.

My entire therapeutic practice is based on three words: I believe you. How often in life (both past and present) have individuals struggled with someone believing them? How easy it is to be judged and misunderstood. A lack of being believed, coupled with being both judged and misunderstood are often what create low self-esteem, depression, trauma , fear and anxiety: all of which can affect relationships, friendships, family life, work, school etc. With support, change and healing are realistic possibilities.

I work with individuals, couples, and families challenged by anxiety, depression, loss, trauma , addiction and the changes of everyday life. While grounded in traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy, I also integrate interpersonal neurobiology and body-based therapies, including Neuroaffective Relational Model(NARM) for developmental trauma , Somatic Experiencing and EMDR. Often, insight alone is not enough to shift patterns we find ourselves stuck in and repeating in ourselves and our relationships.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
