Using psychodynamic and existential theory as well as somatic techniques, I specialize in helping people explore relationship and family patterns, issues of identity and intimacy, and new ways of experiencing and understanding their own thoughts and feelings.
We often struggle alone with anxiety, regret, loneliness, grief, and other difficult emotions. Therapy is a chance to invite someone else into our inner world and express feelings and thoughts that we don't always feel comfortable sharing with our friends and family. I seek to provide a safe, supportive, and challenging space for my clients to explore the issues that hold them back from leading their fullest lives. I believe in participating fully in the interpersonal process by providing feedback and my own observations, while also empowering my clients to come to their own insights.

Much of my training is in the treatment of complex trauma, and I draw on both cognitive and somatic approaches.
It is often through struggle or pain that we meet an opportunity for introspection and growth. My hope is that when you sit with me you will feel both nurtured and challenged as we navigate the parts of your life where you are experiencing difficulty. I will work collaboratively with you, inviting your full participation in the process of therapy so that together we can discover your particular paths toward healing.

I integrate relational therapy and an anti-oppressive framework with body-centered approaches including Somatic Experiencing, Transforming Touch, yoga, and mindfulness practices.
As a body-inclusive psychotherapist, I believe that we have within us everything we need to heal and grow, and that safe, supportive, and collaborative relationships help us to tap into our innate systems of healing. Whether focusing on overall emotional and physiological regulation, managing symptoms related to anxiety or depression, or addressing specific traumas or stressors, we can work together to move away from "stuckness" and towards an enhanced sense of harmony and well-being.

Extensive experience and ongoing study working through the lens of attachment and trauma psychology, somatic therapies, neurobiology, mindfulness-based approaches, along with my 20-year career as a massage therapist and a background in the fine arts informs every aspect of my work as a psychotherapist.
We all have periods in our lives when external or internal circumstances call for support, a place to reflect, a safe environment in which we can benefit from slowing down and gaining perspective and insight about the challenges that we face. My work is direct, empathic, warm, and collaborative, with a focus on helping you find more ease, more energy, and a deeper sense of self-worth.

As a licensed clinical social worker, I believe in every person's capacity to heal, grow and foster deep transformation in their lives. In my practice, I act as a companion to teens and adults who have powerful stories to tell. We integrate traditional psychotherapy with Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, EMDR, Hypnotherapy, Breathwork, Somatic work, Emotionally Focused Therapy, coaching, and other evidence-based approaches through teletherapy.
My approach to psychotherapy is to create a safe space where you can explore and heal the difficult and painful issues that are showing up in your life. Together we will move beyond problem-solving into releasing the deeply held mistaken beliefs and core unresolved issues behind your symptoms. My body-centered and somatic approach allows me to work directly with your nervous system to address symptoms like anxiety, racing thoughts, and irrational fears as well as feeling stuck, depressed and unavailable or unresponsive to life and relationships.

I'm a body oriented therapist utilizing training in Somatic Experiencing along with a variety of therapy modalities.
We all have a natural resilience to heal from trauma, loss, and unexpected setbacks, however stories created about who we are can get in the way. They tell us we are not good enough, that we will fail, that we are not safe. They disconnect us from others, the world around us, and the goals we seek, they wreak havoc in our bodies. Together, we will partner to make sense of and transform these stories, allowing for growth and connection. I believe that even our adversities can be a source of strength and an opportunity to better ourselves.

As a certified Integrative Somatic Psychotherapist, my work combines depth psychology with a deep respect for the body as a bearer of unconscious truths about ourselves.
Pain that we encounter--whether it be emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual--is a "tell." It is a canary in the coal mine of our lives telling us that something is not right with us. It takes courage to listen deeply to this "canary," to explore it with resolve, flexibility, and kindness for ourselves and for those with whom we share our worlds. My way of working with you is to help you cultivate, amplify and sustain the courage to explore your deeper truths with curiosity and compassion so that you can live the life you are most deeply and intuitively drawn to live.

I work with individuals, couples, and families challenged by anxiety, depression, loss, trauma, addiction and the changes of everyday life. While grounded in traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy, I also integrate interpersonal neurobiology and body-based therapies, including Neuroaffective Relational Model(NARM) for developmental trauma, Somatic Experiencing and EMDR. Often, insight alone is not enough to shift patterns we find ourselves stuck in and repeating in ourselves and our relationships.

I am an LCSW trained in trauma focused therapies, including EMDR and somatic experiencing.
Often it takes "trying out" more than one therapist until you find the right match. I would be a good match for you if you question the need to "go back to normal" in the midst of of a pandemic and violent injustice. We may be a good fit if you want to explore self care practices to heal and maintain health during this trying time, you want to explore how trauma shows up in your life and begin to heal from it; you are exploring your own identities and want to work towards embodying the entirety of who you are; or you want to feel more connected to yourself, others, and your community.

I have specialized skills and know how to work with different movement dynamics, somatic contemplation, and the power of touch and mindfulness to release trauma, pain, anxiety, negative perceptions of self, and other types of developmental suffering.
Suffering is often the result of less than nurturing relationships and experiences. Fear can become imprisoned in the body. Family and culture can dictate how safe it is, or not safe, to express and be yourself. My immigrant experience from Taiwan allows me deeper empathy with people navigating life transitions and relating to different cultures and new relationships. At Embodied Way Psychotherapy PLLC, I strive to empower individuals within the context of systemic injustice and complications. My work is to provide compassion and wisdom so that you can feel fully alive and authentic in your body, your world and your relationships.

Using a somatic approach, I emphasize compassion and radical acceptance as we work with the sensations and memories that arise in the process.
Hi! If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or out of sorts, you've stumbled to the right place. Maybe you feel disconnected from yourself and/or your life, and are confused about where to go next. I work with creatively inclined people, educators, students, people in helping professions, entrepreneurs, and people looking for a career change. I accompany people on their search for connection, belonging, and purpose. They often feel stretched thin and have difficulty balancing their own expectations for themself with societal/cultural pressures. They might have difficulty with vulnerability and intimacy and feel isolated or lonely.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
