Therapy with me is structured, active, and evidence-based, focused on reducing symptoms, strengthening resilience, and building a healthier relationship with performance and self-worth.
My ideal clients are high-achieving adults who look successful on the outside but feel stuck inside — caught in cycles of anxiety, trauma-related distress, burnout, or body image preoccupation. They’re tired of coping on the surface and want therapy that creates measurable, lasting change. I provide structured, evidence-based treatment using approaches such as Prolonged Exposure and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Together, we target the patterns maintaining your symptoms and build practical skills that restore focus, confidence, and emotional steadiness.

Creative people often need multiple ways to process and integrate information before things "click" and real change takes place. Integrative art therapy provides an accepting space for flexible self-expression that moves beyond words into the sensory and tangible world. I focus on helping clients connect their unconscious and conscious minds to align around personal and relationship goals in fresh, creative ways. Together we can enter a space where safety and exploration are bridged, and issues of mood, anxiety, and past trauma can be safely and effectively worked through to improve overall functioning through mind-body integration.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Illinois with two decades of experience, specializing in stress management, anxiety, life transitions, low self-esteem, career coaching and professional burnout.
We all have personal problems, and sometimes those problems can overwhelm us.  I have found that emotional symptoms are most often a sign of disequilibrium rather than a pathological condition. My approach integrates CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and mindfulness, to restore balance and well-being in family, work and social spheres.

You’ve done the work. Read the books, set the boundaries, maybe even had years of therapy. Things are better — and you still sense there’s a layer you haven’t yet reached. I work with therapists, neurodivergent people, and those navigating identity shifts that don’t fit neatly into old frameworks. People who are done with surface-level and ready to go somewhere real. At Starks Therapy Group, we offer depth-oriented, experiential care for adults ready to move past insight into genuine change.

We all want to live happy and productive lives and we all have strengths that help us do this. Strengths lie in our relationships and inside of us. Sometimes blocks keep us from being able to use our strengths. At Chicago Center for Relationship Counseling, we have many excellent therapists who are available to help access strengths and lift blocks.

We all have words in our heart that are difficult to speak. Therapy is a great opportunity to bring voice to those words and make sense of their meaning so we can have a greater understanding of who we are and our place in this world. I view therapy as a unique opportunity to know and understand yourself in more profound and meaningful ways so as to allow true clarity, purpose, and healing in everyday life. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable to you, and, ultimately, we will work together to bridge your inner emotional life to past and current experiences to then provide a renewed and hopeful understanding of yourself.

INSIGHT, SKILLS, SUPPORT. Strength-based. Solution focused. I work with clients of all ages using cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based therapies along with guided imagery, dreamwork, and art. I believe that mindfulness can help to reduce negative thinking, worrying and self-criticism. These are bad habits - and they can be changed. I am skilled at teaching children/adults how to be more mindful instead of getting caught up in harmful, unproductive thoughts that lead to self defeating actions.

Self Esteem Therapists
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
