Many of us struggle with difficulties in relationships, personal grief, and emotional or physical pain. We often see these as obstacles to healing with a hopeless outlook of change. We need answers, reasons, and certainty to soothe our longings or access "progress." So often this shrouds our ability to slow down and look inward. My aim is to empower you to navigate these complexities with courage and resilience. Through a holistic approach that addresses both emotional and physical patterns formed throughout a lifetime of relationships and experiences, you can learn to honor your story the way no one else can. Come as you are.

This is kind of weird, isn't it, to "shop" for a therapist? I won't try to convince you that I'm the best therapist for you, but I can tell you that I love helping people learn how to help themselves. I worked in therapeutic day schools where I gained experience working with those struggling and/or experiencing ADHD, Autism, grief, trauma, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and depression. I have since used that experience to work with people of all ages wanting to find peace.

Hi! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for helping adults and young adults overcome issues life throws at us. Negative life experiences can lead to feelings of sadness, isolation, lack of motivation, racing thoughts, and panic attacks. In order to work through these challenges, we need to challenge our cognitive distortions, identify our triggers, and find that motivation to set and achieve goals. This isn't easy. It's a process. No matter what your problems are, they are important, so put yourself first and reach out for help.

I know what's happening. Your scrolling over these profiles, overwhelmed with trying to find a therapist who seems like a good fit. I get it! Choosing someone to trust with your valuable feelings is stressful. Especially, given the reasons you are looking to begin with. Maybe you are struggling with your mood, trauma, grief, or strained relationships. Or, you need help to achieve healthy emotional boundaries and coping. Perhaps, you've not had a quality night's sleep in years and need to make a change. I'm confident I can help you with all those things and more.

I provide a warm, accepting environment, where my clients are able to feel safe to express themselves. I like to use humor, where appropriate, but I am very sensitive to the pain that my clients are experiencing. I believe that people can change and adjust at any point in life, when they are provided with good support.

I strive to help you reflect, explore, broaden your understanding of yourself in the multiple facets of your story, and find a new path forward. What stories are you telling yourself about who you are, how you got here, or what comes next? So much of who we are is made up of the world we live in, with all of its influences, mirrors, and connections. Maybe you're looking for someone to help unhook you from those unhelpful stories, or maybe you're in need of space to explore new ideas. Whatever the case, I'm glad you're here.

“There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t,” by John Green has always been one of my favorite quotes. As an advocate, I have continuously encouraged individuals to see a therapist. When life feels challenging it may be easy to tell yourself that there is no hope; however, it is my priority to remind you that there is. Therapy is not only for those who are managing something difficult, it can also be for someone who is adjusting to a positive change. It can be for a child starting at a new school, or an adult preparing to marry their soulmate.

Hi! My name is Nichole Gaddis. I have worked in a variety of healthcare settings providing direct patient care for well over a decade. I have witnessed how life-changing therapy can be with a therapist who treats the whole person, and as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, whole-person care is the foundation of my practice. Keeping that in mind, my intention in therapy is to provide you with a sounding-board and an honest voice of reason to help you understand yourself better, challenge maladaptive thought processes, and find ways to make your life more enriching. It will be challenging, but the result is worth the challenge.

I take an active part in helping my clients recognize why they may engage in maladaptive behaviors and help them to move toward constructive ways of handling their life issues in more adaptive ways. I worked for three years in the adolescent psychiatry division at Cook County Hospital and have continued my interest and expertise working with adolescents. I also have extensive experience working with clients who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as I was a psychologist on a team working with children who had been physically or sexually abused.

We all have obstacles or challenges in life. I am passionate about helping adolescents and young adults face those challenges and learn how to overcome them in healthy ways. Some of those difficult challenges can include issues with relationships, anxiety, life transitions, or depression. I understand that carrying all of that can feel like you’re drowning with no way up to the surface. However, working with adolescents and young adults has taught me to create a safe space filled with compassion, open-mindedness, awareness, and understanding.

How can I find a therapist in Bloomingdale?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
