Being strong and determined is great - um, except that it often involves falling apart behind closed doors. Not many people know that as awesome as you are, you often feel panicked, overwhelmed, angry, or irritable. You wish you could relax, but it feels like there's just not enough time for yourself. You worry about making the wrong decisions, and what everyone else thinks of you. You don't want to let anyone down, but you're starting to SHUT down. You're not finding answers (isn't there, like, a handbook for this stuff?!) Meanwhile, you just can't seem to turn off that little voice inside that says you have to be perfect.

Accepting NEW Clients: Are you ready to find a little more peace, strength, and balance in your everyday life? Imagine what it would feel like to quiet the constant “what ifs” in your mind, to stop worrying so much, and to feel capable of handling whatever comes your way. Maybe you’re navigating a big life change, facing challenges in a relationship, feeling the effects of stress, or going through the physical and emotional shifts of peri-menopause or post-menopause. Or maybe you just know that something feels off—and you’re ready to start feeling like yourself again. And, you don’t have to do it alone.

My approach to therapy is that of a guide, helping people discover their own inner strength so they can make positive changes. Clients say that my laid back demeanor and calming presence allow a safe, relaxing place to talk openly and work through concerns together. While both direct and supportive, I tailor my approach based on the individual needs of each client. Whether child, teen or adult, I feel it is a privilege to help clients find healing and happiness.

Are you having a hard time? Sharing your concerns with a counselor might help tremendously. Let's talk about your resources and/or develop new ones. I think of counseling as a process that explores the Heart (feelings), the Mind (thinking), and the Hand (behaviors). Sessions are confidential and safe. I specialize in telehealth (phone) sessions. I see a limited number of in-person clients in Evergreen Park, Illinois. (Please leave a message ... I get tons of garbage calls!)

Do you feel weighed down by constant worry or sadness? Maybe you're overwhelmed by the current state of affairs, grieving a loss, or stretched thin as a caregiver. Perhaps the strain you're feeling makes daily life feel like an uphill battle. Whatever challenge you're facing, you don't have to navigate it alone. Many people feel stuck in these same patterns—but change is possible when you have the right support.

We learn, develop meaning and create a sense of purpose through each other and the relationships we form. In the same spirit I believe the therapeutic process is driven by the relationship formed between the client and the therapist. This is why my approach in therapy is guided by creating an empathic, nonjudgmental atmosphere where you feel safe and empowered to work toward personal growth and creating lasting change.

I work with individuals and couples that are ready to prioritize the work of therapy so they can be more self-aware, move through their days with more ease, and have more functional relationships. Maybe you’ve seen therapists in the past, and now find yourself seeking more from therapy than someone who listens and validates. I strive to offer concrete takeaways from our sessions.

Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from your true self? You might be going through a significant life transition, dealing with anxiety or depression, or struggling with self-worth in a world that often ignores your needs. Women of color, especially Black women, often bear the weight of unspoken expectations, past traumas, and cultural burdens that affect their mental and emotional well-being. You deserve a space where you can be seen, heard, and supported on your own terms.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
