Do you wish your life was different, or your relationships more fulfilling? People often begin therapy when they are hurting or feel stuck. They may feel overwhelmed by past or present stressors or traumas and may not know what to do to feel better. Others begin therapy as a means to deepen their understanding of themselves and to reflect on how and why they think, feel, and act as they do. Therapy is a process of self-reflection that leads to personal growth and healing.

I feel that the most important component of every successful therapy outcome is the therapeutic
relationship
between therapist and client. Trust, safety, empathy, and authenticity should be experienced within the
relationship
. These
relationship
qualities create an environment conducive to working on life’s issues and feeling comfortable throughout the process of change. I take a collaborative approach to therapy to meet the goals presented by my clients. My style is interactive and my treatment orientation is tailored to each individual client to meet their individual needs and to fit with their unique personalities.

You have a right to have a passionate and fulfilling
relationship
. You may not be sure if it’s their fault or yours but you do know that you miss feeling that spark. You feel frustrated that your needs go unmet or that you are constantly being nagged to meet your partners. The resentment is invading every area of your life together. Communication has broken down, you’re constantly irritated and snippy. You can’t remember the last time you had fun together, let alone had great sex. You know there has to be more to life than this. You want to feel connected, energized and satisfied. You dream of being desired and wanted again.

As human beings we learn, develop meaning, and create a sense of purpose through each other and the relationships we form. In the same spirit I believe the therapeutic process is driven by the
relationship
formed between the client and the therapist. This is why my approach in therapy is guided by the question - "How can I provide a
relationship
which this person may use for their personal growth?" I strive to create an empathic, nonjudgmental atmosphere where you feel safe and empowered to work toward personal growth and creating lasting change; forming trust and leaning toward vulnerability.

Are you felling lonely, anxious, or depressed? Have you been in a “funk” and can’t find a way out? Do you feel uncomfortable in your own skin? You're not alone! Often, we settle for known or understood pain because the alternative seems impossible or frightening. Successful therapy results in finding the solutions within ourselves for a better, happier life. The best way to achieve this relies on the quality of the
relationship
between the client and the therapist. I meet my client's where they're at and talk to them like people and not "patients."

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
