Some of my specific specialties with individuals and couples include living with high functioning anxiety, perfectionism & depression, coping with trauma, substance use, disordered eating, and the emotional toll of cancer and other chronic illnesses.
My clinical style is different than most. I'm a change focused therapist. Rather than focusing on treatment modality, I use Feedback Informed Treatment, a way of tracking progress, to make sure that therapy is actually helping. With almost two decades of clinical experience in high-stakes settings, I've spent the last few years building diverse skills.

While I work on a wide variety of issues, I specialize in substance use challenges and ADHD, as well as, neurodiversity and attachment challenges.
Together, we’ll explore what matters most to you – identifying your core values and how they can guide your choices, goals, and sense of purpose. Whether you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or simply uncertain about your next steps, therapy can help you reconnect with what gives your life meaning and move toward it with clarity and self-compassion. Along the way, we’ll also cultivate emotional flexibility and resilience, so you can navigate life’s ups and downs with greater ease.

Whether you want to not feel afraid anymore, change your drinking/ substance use, or go deeper after substance use treatment, I focus on the person in front of me and what you want to accomplish, providing space for you to explore why you feel stuck, whether therapy is for you, how to cope when life feels overwhelming, why similar situations happen over and over.
For 20 years, I have supported people to build skills to meet life more successfully - even when it seems hopeless. I offer space for with those who have questions, provide a smooth transition for those exiting more intensive substance use treatment, and concurrently address mental health and substance use concerns, using both talk and body-centered methods.

"In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or step back into safety" (Abraham Maslow). Deciding to make changes in one's life takes courage. For many of us life can be difficult. Whether it's addiction, depression, relationship issues or just the fears and insecurities of life, we all have challenges we must face. Therapy is meant to be a safe place where we are able to find courage to walk through these challenges and to find real hope with practical help.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
