I work with couples who are experiencing significant challenges in their relationship, including those who may be on the brink of divorce. They may be dealing with communication breakdowns, emotional disconnection, unresolved conflicts, or the impact of past traumas. I also work with individual clients who may not have an obvious history of trauma but may be struggling with anxiety, depression, or other challenges that make it difficult to thrive. They might feel overwhelmed by daily stressors, experience low self-esteem, or struggle to manage their emotions and maintain a positive outlook.

In addition to being a therapist, I am a UMich PhD candidate focusing on campus sexual assault prevention.
As someone who has sat on both sides of the therapist’s office, I deeply believe that healing is possible for everyone. I view the main vehicle for this change as connection: with me, with yourself, with your body, with others in your life, with your environment, and with broader social movements and communities. As your therapist, I will invest in building a safe and trustworthy relationship over time, through curiosity, authenticity, and transparency. It’s important to me to understand and address how power, oppression, and your multifaceted identities influence your life, as none of us heal in a vacuum.

Therapy isn't just a place to heal. It is a space to get curious about who you are becoming, where every part of your identity is not just welcomed, but understood. I'm committed to creating a therapy space that feels liberating, empowering, and affirming. I’m a queer and neurodivergent therapist who works relationally and collaboratively. We build tools not to fix you, but to support you in aligning with the life you actually want.

Brendan's clinical experience began with sexual assault intervention and counseling in 2015.
Congratulations! You’re taking the first step towards a happier, healthier life. You are making a powerful decision in seeking support. We can’t know what amazing chain reaction will come from this choice to heal. My background is in sexual and domestic violence. I believe trauma affects us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. By establishing safety, remembering, and grieving, we are able to reconnect with our current lives. I use a mixture of experiential, Nature-based, and Feminist Relational techniques. Our nervous system cannot absorb trauma alone. We heal together.

I treat sexual abuse, complex relationship challenges, and men's issues affecting performance, identity, and relational functioning.
Are you carrying the effects of sexual, emotional, or physical abuse while continuing to succeed in your professional life? Many high-functioning leaders and creatives live with hidden anxiety, depression, perfectionism, or relationship struggles rooted in earlier trauma. You may appear capable and composed, yet feel disconnected, ashamed, or exhausted inside. If parts of your past still shape how you relate, trust, or see yourself, therapy can help you understand those patterns and begin reclaiming a more integrated and authentic life.

Many of these problems can be related to sexual abuse, domestic violence, emotional or social issues, panic attacks, substance abuse or other issues.
I work in the belief that what we learned in our families gets replayed in our adult lives. It is the story we tell ourselves about what happened to us that influences our perceptions and behaviors. It is important to learn our patterns and change them.

I have worked across the lifespan with individuals navigating complex trauma, sexual assault recovery, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
My practice is rooted in liberation psychology, anti-oppressive frameworks, and a deep respect for lived experience. I am an EMDR-trained practitioner and offer a therapeutic space where safety, authenticity, and relational connection come first. In the spirit of curiosity and collaboration, I invite clients into a healing process that honors the whole self—mind, body, and spirit. Drawing on my background in Cultural Anthropology, I approach therapy through a cultural-historical lens, supporting clients in recognizing and naming the ways systemic oppression shapes their lives and inner worlds.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
