I currently hold a Masters in Addiction and Mental Health and am finishing a secondary Masters in Clinical Mental Health, while working towards professional licensure. I take an integrated approach to counseling but am based in a logotherapeutic and Existential Psychotherapeutic theoretical orientation. I utilize these approaches while incorporating concepts from therapies such as
Somatic
and Emotion Focused therapy. If you are looking for a more philosophical approach that focuses on the existential givens and our place in the world while allowing room for our emotions and attachments, then I hope to work with you.

I believe that we all have an inherent ability to heal deeply, oftentimes we just need a safe environment to begin to open and step on this healing journey. When we realize that disoriented parts of ourselves cause imbalance and problems, the awareness itself leads the way to becoming whole and come home to ourselves. As we move through the story of life in time and space, we carry the past to the present and the present to the future. Our bodies – physical and subtle hold so much of our stories beneath the surface. My goal, using
somatic
-based approaches, is to help you reattune to our existential wisdom and bring lasting change.

I enjoy working with clients who are having difficulty dealing with anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress as well as clients who feel lost and are questioning the purpose of life. I like to help clients learn what their true values are and how to live in line with them. Clients who have expressed grief over their childhood but are struggling with validation of their feelings may say things like "but I was never hit". Emotional abuse and neglect have a profound effect on human development. I enjoy helping educate on what Complex PTSD is and how it has affected the nervous system and what clients can do to heal.

Life isn't always in our control (and no, I'm not a fan of that either). In therapy, we can learn to manage the things within our control - so that we are better equipped to contend with life’s inevitable ups and downs. Whether you're experiencing a big transition, stress from everyday life, a personal loss, or chronic issues - we can work together to make things easier. I have experience working with individuals with a variety of concerns & mental/physical health issues. I strive to make everyone - of any body shape/size, sexuality, gender, race, religion, or disability - comfortable in the therapy room (and in their own skins).

Hello!! The right match between therapist and client can be one of the largest factors to therapeutic success. My view of the therapeutic relationship is that of a shared journey between client and therapist. I have been in private practice for ten years and I continue to be a "client" as well, which I believe gives me sensitivity and insights resulting in a non judging collaborative approach. I see therapy as an opportunity to use symptoms as a gateway to self discovery and growth, as a self actualizing process as we heal wounds, work through issues, and discover self potential.

If you are struggling in your life, it is likely that the emotional pain you have never faced and buried within yourself is causing your difficulties. Often, we are blind and totally disconnected from the buried emotions that are the source of our struggles. And the solutions we attempt often make the conflicts worse. if you are caught up in this endless cycle, an experienced therapist can lead you through and beyond this trap, and to a life in which you may feel relief and also then thrive. For over 25 years I have help courageous individuals work through this form of unresolved emotional pain and ultimately enhance their lives.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
