Life is messy. That’s the motto I adopted a few years ago to remind myself that there is no such thing as perfect and rarely does everything go according to plan. My journey has taken me through a variety of messes…divorce, single
parenting
, job changes, remarriage and the blending of families, just to name a few. Although this isn’t the path that I planned to take, I am thankful for each step because of the healing and growth that accompanied it and ultimately led me to pursue my master’s degree in family and marriage therapy.

My clinical interests lie in treating couple’s issues (preparing for marriage,
parenting
, or divorce), life transitions, blended families, and adolescents.
Everyone needs a person to talk to, but just as important, you need someone to listen and hear what you are saying. My goal is to be that person for you, and help you navigate everyday life, including any struggles or difficulties you are facing. As the mom of two teenagers, I know that life is busy, and that often times, we do not make time for our own needs or our relationships. Whether that relationship be with your spouse or partner, children, or any other relationship you are trying to improve or heal from, I would like the privilege to help and hear you.

I'm a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with extensive training and experience with relationship issues, depression, domestic problems, child & adolescent behavior problems, &
parenting
issues.
Our world has changed radically in a very short time. The pandemic has created new problems and magnified existing ones. Our interactions with others, even within our families, have changed out of necessity. We live with uncertainty, fear, and anxiety. The "normal" that we knew before, has changed. Stress has taken on bigger proportions. Our mental health, our sense of security may be severely taxed. For this reason, I provide telehealth sessions through Zoom No need to come to an office for counseling when we can still "meet" face-to-face. Call to set up an appointment. I look forward to hearing from you!

Rooted in a Family Systems approach, I have experience with depression, anxiety, loss/grief, life changes, infidelity, relational distress, blended families, co-
parenting
and stress management.
At any time in our lives, we may experience distance between where we are and where we'd like to be. Obstacles can sometimes stand in our way, and prevent us from achieving and living the life that we long for. I work with individuals and couples in a collaborative process to explore these obstacles, and to challenge old patterns and beliefs that may no longer be necessary, while finding new ways of thinking and living. With much compassion and understanding, I work with clients to facilitate healing and growth, grounded in a desire to empower others to achieve their goals, and to be brave, while deeply-rooted in hope.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
