Currently, I am accepting new clients! Drawing on 15 years of experience as a clinical therapist, I am shifting my area of practice to helping women of all ages live their best life. My belief is treatment should focus on developing an emotionally safe relationship to create an environment you are comfortable sharing your truth. My practice approach is primarily client centered and solution focused. I enjoy exploring life struggles and providing the tools to help you navigate through them.

I believe in working collaboratively with a client to help them work through problems and barriers so that they can reach their unique potential. I believe in a positive, solution focused approach, which encourages hope and gratitude related to all of life's lessons.

Welcome! We are a small, private, multi-clinician practice. I am a supervising clinical psychologist, and am passionate about helping people overcome obstacles in their lives, particularly those stemming from traumatic experiences and events. These can include (but are not limited to) toxic relationships, divorce, car accidents, loss of a loved one, abuse/neglect (physical, sexual, verbal or emotional), domestic violence and secondary trauma.

Everyone struggles at some point in their lives; we are humans, not robots. But sometimes those struggles can become overwhelming, and we don’t know how to manage our fears, feelings, thoughts or behaviors. Here, at Healthy Mentality, we will guide you to face those fears and concerns in a safe environment. We offer traditional in-office therapy, as well as animal-assisted psychotherapy.

I am a licensed clinical social worker, who is passionate about working with people in realizing their potential and achieving their goals. I am a big believer in people's ability to persevere and overcome life's challenges and sit with my clients as an interactive listener, source of support and also a challenger of thoughts. I am licensed in the state of Illinois and holds bachelors' in sociology/anthropology and Russian from Swarthmore College and a master's in clinical social work from the University of Chicago.

I have over 15 years of experience in the behavioral health field working with a variety of presenting problems and concerns, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, grief, substance use and abuse as well as other behavior changes. I have an eclectic style of counseling, drawing upon Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused therapy, Person-Centered, and Cognitive Behavioral therapy in order to see how thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected and affect our daily lives.

Life is messy. That’s the motto I adopted a few years ago to remind myself that there is no such thing as perfect and rarely does everything go according to plan. My journey has taken me through a variety of messes…divorce, single parenting, job changes, remarriage and the blending of families, just to name a few. Although this isn’t the path that I planned to take, I am thankful for each step because of the healing and growth that accompanied it and ultimately led me to pursue my master’s degree in family and marriage therapy.

I intimately understand that life can be stressful and that life transitions can be overwhelming and confusing. I understand that the upheaval of life often leads to feelings of fear, helplessness, and hopelessness and can be experienced as anxiety, depression, or simply a loss of self. I understand stress caused by feelings of loneliness or isolation, feelings of fear, even feelings of depression and anxiety may interfere with daily living. As a therapist with over 30 years of experience, I work with church staff, corporate executives, teens and adults to improve leadership skills, personal relationships and business performance. Patients & family members currently dealing with the emotional effects of chronic or terminal illness are also a piece of my practice. I provide individual, marital and family counseling. I treat a variety of common emotional and relational difficulties including anxiety, depression and relationship conflict, as well as parent/child issues, and the emotional effects of medical conditions.

A trusting foundation with your therapist is the beginning to successful therapy. Our life experiences, exposure to trauma, and current events often impact behaviors and responses to these events, which can lead to the feeling of being misunderstood or confused. These issues often impact relationships, health, work, and self-esteem. A trusting collaboration with clients provides empowerment into gaining insight and self-awareness. My therapy style provides helpful guidance when clients are searching for improvements to their lives.

Life can be difficult and at times people need an outside source of support. Through a collaborative approach, the focus at Next Direction is developing skills and insight that help the client navigate and resolve the issues that brought them to counseling. Because clients need to feel comfortable with the counselor they select, Next Direction Counseling offers an initial phone consultation to discuss your counseling goals and answer any questions. We believe providing an introductory meeting allows clients to make informed decisions about their mental healthcare and facilitates a positive counseling experience.

When you reach the point where you're considering therapy, it's likely that your life is not going the way you would like and you don’t know how to fix it. You may feel overwhelmed and don’t have the energy to manage your complex, demanding responsibilities. Maybe your relationships are not very supportive, and you feel alone in facing what seem to be life’s constant battles.
