I enjoy working with couples , teens, and young adults.
I OFFER INPERSON THERAPY SESSION-MASKED AND UNMASKED. While counseling tends to be about serious issues, it is important to me to know my clients on a personal level, not just the struggles they are going through. I like to know how my clients take their coffee, their idiosyncrasies, and which football team makes them yell at the screen on Sunday's. My approach is practical and honest. I value transparency, humor, self-awareness, and genuine exchanges.

Everyone needs a person to talk to, but just as important, you need someone to listen and hear what you are saying. My goal is to be that person for you, and help you navigate everyday life, including any struggles or difficulties you are facing. As the mom of two teenagers, I know that life is busy, and that often times, we do not make time for our own needs or our relationships. Whether that relationship be with your spouse or partner , children, or any other relationship you are trying to improve or heal from, I would like the privilege to help and hear you.

I provide non-blaming, non-judgmental, and collaborative counseling services, affectionately called “Bubba Counseling”, to male individuals and couples whose lives have been ripped apart due to loss/grief, relational conflict, and shattered dreams. Unresolved pain and fear from "doin' life" fuels anger and addictive behaviors that destroy relationships and turn life into a cardboard dirt sandwich with a side of sawdust. I help men and couples separate themselves (and their friends and family) from the problems that plague their life, allowing people to externalize their issues rather than internalizing them.

Did you or your spouse recently have an affair? Do you wonder if there is still hope for your marriage after a betrayal? I specialize in helping couples recover from an affair and have helped hundreds of couples move through the healing process. Many couples even report that they have a better marriage now than they did prior to the betrayal.

While I use several evidence-based therapeutic models, my approach begins by building a therapeutic relationship based on compassion and respect.
Life isn't always in our control (and no, I'm not a fan of that either). In therapy, we can learn to manage the things within our control - so that we are better equipped to contend with life’s inevitable ups and downs. Whether you're experiencing a big transition, stress from everyday life, a personal loss, or chronic issues - we can work together to make things easier. I have experience working with individuals with a variety of concerns & mental/physical health issues. I strive to make everyone - of any body shape/size, sexuality, gender, race, religion, or disability - comfortable in the therapy room (and in their own skins).

I am an LCSW with over 25 years of experience working with adults as individuals, as couples , and as part of a family system.
My job, as I see it, is not to fix you, but to help you fix yourself. To do that, I help you find the tools you already have and remind you that - on some deep level - you already know how to use them. My approach is cognitive, because I believe the way we think about our lives helps create them.

Have you been to counseling before but want more than just talking things out? Do you wish to bring your spirituality to counseling as an easier way to become free from painful problems and relationships. I offer deep but gentle methods that release blocks to your spiritual self - your inner essence that's naturally connected and content. This is done by bringing awareness, acceptance, and loving kindness to your inner experience, alongside prayer and conscious intention. These ways can resolve the root causes of personal problems like anxiety, loss, lack of meaning / purpose, trauma, addiction, relationship difficulties, & more.

As a graduate student therapist and intern with some clinical experience, I have had the opportunity to work with couples and individuals with varying needs.
Whether you are going through an important transition or need extra support as you navigate everyday life, it is worth remembering that everyone needs help sometimes. Being a wife for the last 16 years and a mom for the last 20 years has given me the opportunity to experience the richness of family life including teen parenthood, marriage, parenthood, life cycle transitions, blended family dynamics, anxiety and stress related challenges. Challenges create strength and it is my passion to help others sift through the inevitable challenges of life to cultivate understanding and clarity and the ability to move forward with strength.

This includes your relationship with a variety of areas of life, including culture, relationships, work, spirituality, and most importantly, your relationship with your Self.
Whether you’re seeking therapy due to dissatisfaction regarding a specific issue in your life or just trying to find peace in the midst of world events, I strive to help clients develop self-compassion, resilience, healing and greater happiness. While suffering is a normal part of being human, therapy provides a safe space to explore our response to internal and external stresses and develop a greater sense of peace, meaning, and fulfillment. In addition to genuine concern and empathy, clients have mentioned my 'particular blend of pragmatism and humor' as helpful in establishing a collaborative therapeutic relationship .

Are there certain aspects of your life that you wish could be different or obstacles that are deterring you on your path? Are you offering the best version of yourself in your relationship with others? Do you ever question what it would mean to embrace the "real you"? We all have our own course to walk in this unique journey called life. But we also have the potential to change our direction at any time. The direction is determined by how we perceive our journey, and by the choices that we make as a result of those perceptions. Once we understand this concept, the potential for change becomes limitless!

We want to build a good working relationship , which is a big factor in success, aside from finding personal strengths and resources of each person.
Our clients want someone on their side. They are self-motivated, enjoy humor, and are willing to try new things if it makes sense to them. Some want relief from depression, or various forms of anxiety. Others struggle with addictions and addictive behavior and are looking for ways to not feel powerless. Or, they have concerns about their kids and their behavior, or ADHD, and would like someone to come along side them to help support them or meet with their child. All services are also available in Spanish. Mood tracking, journaling, and communication skills are developed in the app Minute Mood (which can be found at minutemood.com).

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
