Recognizing the way trauma affects the nervous system, we can work together to be mindful of somatic and body centered approaches.
I believe that trusting relationships, creativity, and community are at the heart of inner peace. I offer you a compassionate, empathetic, playful, and non-judgmental space. Trauma influences life, body, and the brain in complex ways and therefore sometimes in therapy we need to talk, and sometimes we need to pause, move, or create. I am informed by attachment theory, and psychodynamic approaches, and embrace the relational element to healing. As a musician, and with music therapy training, I understand the regulatory power of art and invite you to integrate creative arts such as songwriting.

You’re feeling disconnected, either from yourself or others, lost, in pain, or just not like yourself. Maybe you’ve been here before, or this could be the first time you’re seeking therapy. Regardless, I warmly welcome you! I use mindfulness, narrative, parts work, and psychodynamic approaches blended with cognitive restructuring to support people with mood and thought disorders, difficulty with relationships, life transitions, grief/loss, and singular, chronic, or intergenerational trauma. Your body is also in therapy, so somatic , body-centered approaches to anxiety, depression, and other symptoms are also incorporated in my work.

Using a warm, direct style, I invite intellectual grappling as well as somatic (body-oriented) and spiritual experiencing.
Are you overthinking, overworking, or overwhelmed? I can help. I work with individuals and couples to be present and find joy, whether you're going through a big transition, wanting to rekindle "the spark", looking to find love, trying to set boundaries, or dealing with anxiety. Using therapy as an experimental space we'll work to find your unique meaning & purpose by exploring the parts of you that feel hard to access or name- criticism, self-doubt, inadequacies, relationship struggles. Our work will also help you discover your strengths & passions. Together, we'll examine your choices and imagine a new way of being.

Sessions are about more than just talking; we gain insight, learn practical skills, and improve self-understanding using Sensorimotor/ Somatic Psychotherapy and Internal Family Systems.
Trauma leaves us feeling broken, damaged, isolated, and detached from our true self. You may be fed up with feeling triggered in everyday situations, being disconnected from yourself and your emotions, & find you cannot remember significant chunks of your life. You may not even remember a time you didn’t feel like this. Either way, one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to enjoy a day in which the memories of pain can be remembered without being emotionally & physically triggered by them. You’re ready to wake up each morning with purpose. Most of all, you’re ready to love yourself again.

I work from a somatic based approach as a way to help create a mind-body connection.
These last few years have been really hard on our Bodies. So many of us feel more disconnected from ourselves. Your Body deserves to take up space - the world needs your voice and your story. My goal is that my clients can find a place to rest in our work together and to be fully authentically themselves. My specializations are in working with teenagers and young adults who may be neurodivergent, exploring gender identity and/or sexual orientation, healing from complex childhood trauma, and/or religious trauma, or looking to heal their relationship with food and their Bodies.

My practice utilizes relational, cognitive-behavioral, and somatic techniques to explore how your concerns have developed and help you build skills to interrupt the cycles that detract from your quality of life.
Searching for a therapist can be overwhelming, even more so when you are going through life challenges and have limited energy to spare. Therapy can provide a space for healing, clarity, and growth, and the relationship between therapist and client has been found to be the most important ingredient in that process. I approach my work with flexibility, compassion, and a deep respect for self-determination. I firmly believe you are the expert in your experience.

I am a trauma informed, somatic therapist with a social justice lens.
The current state of the world can feel overwhelming, confusing, and scary. Those of us who hold marginalized identities have to work extra hard to feel safe, valid, and empowered. LGBTQIA+ communities, folks with different abilities, people who are a marginalized gender, as well as those who would like to explore their whiteness and their privilege- I am right here with you. Past traumas can often impact how we are able to show up for ourselves and others. We each have the ability to find our unique path to fulfillment and wholeness.

There is no prescriptive way that somatic or movement work will look, I invite movers and non-movers alike into a space where we attend to ALL of you.
I believe my role as a therapist is to help you hold and find meaning in your pain, and delight with you in what is playful and pleasureful in your life. My approach is warm, direct, and collaborative. I am interested in creating a genuine, transparent and accountable relationship with you. My hope is that within our relationship we can identify and interrupt harmful patterns that may emerge in your relationships and reinforce patterns that bring you joy and connection. Therapy is inherently political, and I aim to engage with my clients in ways that are liberatory, anti-racist and affirming of their intersecting identities.

I am a student in the Somatic Experiencing Professional Training Program.
Every person deserves to be valued for who they are and where they are in life. Life challenges can lead us to feel disconnected from ourselves. There can be great value in reclaiming our entire selves, with all we have been through and currently face, while stepping into the unknown. Being truly witnessed can help us reconcile our realities, regain hope, and remember our gifts. I wish to honor your life by offering a warm, accepting haven for you to exist, unpack, discover, heal, and co-create your life in light of who you are and the unique opportunities and challenges you experience. You deserve to feel at home with yourself.

I use a combination of modalities to guide our work, namely tenets of somatic -based body work and frameworks from the Internal Family Systems (IFS) and psychodynamic models.
My therapy practice is facilitated through psychosomatic awareness and informed by years of practice as a community organizer, group dialogue facilitator, and educator at the University of Washington. I have extensive experience working with clients who experienced physical and sexual trauma, as well as clients who have perpetuated violence, themselves. I work with all adult and late-teen populations, specializing in working with adult men and LGBTQ+ folks.

I am a relational body-centered, somatic psychotherapist specializing in the resolution of overwhelming life events and trauma.
I believe that we humans heal in the context of relationship and that therapy is the process in which we find our way to our whole selves. In the therapy room, I join with clients to co-create their unique path to wholeness by realizing their inherent strengths and utilizing them to developing a 'tool belt' of strategies for which to work through life's struggles. Together we orient to the client's inherent capacity to gain mastery of their own functioning from the lens of their truth.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
