I work with people college-age and older, and my areas of interest are anxiety, depression, life transitions, sleep disorders/ insomnia , chronic health issues, relationships, dating, ADHD, and issues related to family-of-origin.

I believe that everyone deserves to sleep well, feel good, and be in a loving and healthy romantic relationship.
I'm a therapist with 12 years of full-time psychotherapy experience. In my work with clients, I offer an environment of care, compassion, humility, and human understanding. Despite its beauty, the human experience is laden with struggles, challenges, and complexities. Often these issues are worth or necessitate exploring. Although I have extensive experience working with a wide range of concerns, I specialize in sleep , anxiety/depression, dating, relationship concerns, and complex trauma. In addition to being a general practitioner, I also practice EMDR.

I also have a strong interest in childhood sleep disturbances and enjoy working with parents of infants, toddlers and preschoolers to address sleep problems.
As a parent and as a therapist for young children, I wholeheartedly understand the various difficulties of raising children, as well as the great joys of parenthood. I view therapy with young children as a means to discover underlying issues that could be impacting a child's current emotional or behavioral presentation and working with the parents and child as a team in addressing those issues. I have a warm, inviting and causal style of interacting with families that helps them feel less anxiety about participating in the therapeutic process.

I love working with clients who are new to or curious about therapy. Sometimes people feel that they have been half-living, or "faking it" (hoping to make it), but don't know what to do about it. Sometimes people are looking for ways to live more mindfully and purposefully. And sometimes people just need help tackling a specific problem. My work with clients generally focuses on anxiety, depression, life transitions, sleep issues, and relationship conflicts. Together, we can discover what changes will help your life become more enjoyable - and then put those changes into action.

I like to combine nutrition, physical activity, sleep hygiene and healthy daily habits to address overall health and well-being.
I work best with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma or life stress. I prefer to work with clients who are interested in exploring together the root of the problem that impacts your life. We will explore together the goals you hope to achieve in therapy. I am here to partner with you to work through the issues that are causing you disruption in your life, and to help you meet your goals. This may include worksheets (outside of session), exploring cognitive stuck points (errors) that keep someone stuck in unhealthy patterns, and other interventions that can be useful in daily life.

Various changes in life might be impacting your sleep and your ability to get things done or to have patience with the people in your life. A major crisis may not have happened but you are getting worried. You might be having relationship issues or struggling with some negative coping that provides relief but then remorse. It's time to quit pretending that all is well. You deserve to have a confidential reality check and some support just for you.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
