Hello! I am a bilingual therapist passionate about working with clients from different backgrounds and cultures. Since 2014, I have been offering services to clients who have experienced trauma in their lives and who have experienced intense emotions of sadness, fear, anger, worry, low self-esteem, or affecting their interpersonal relationships. I offer clients a safe space to process their feelings and experiences, teaching them skills that can help them regulate their emotions and improve their quality of life. I believe healing occurs by creating and promoting a safe therapeutic relationship.

I specialize in
perinatal
mental health and have experience in supporting women as they navigate the complexities of high-risk pregnancies, unexpected pregnancies, birth trauma,
perinatal
loss, and
perinatal
mood and anxiety disorders.
I am client-focused when working with individuals and families, providing space for them to openly discuss the impact family building has had on their mental health. I encourage clients to actively participate in their treatment and collaboratively work with each client to identify their therapeutic goals. I use a mixture of modalities, from cognitive-behavioral techniques to holistic and integrative approaches. I always strive to bring culture and identity into the therapy space as I believe one’s lived experiences are often shaped by their personal identities.

I have 25 years of experience in the treatment of issues including: relationship struggles,
postpartum
depression and anxiety, low self-esteem, marital conflict, adolescent treatment and generalized anxiety and depression.
The therapists in our practice joined together because of our shared belief that our clients, who have reached out for help in managing and overcoming the challenges their lives, each have a unique set of strengths that often need to be better understood and developed. In our own styles, we each use the therapeutic relationship to understand what is interfering with an individual's sense of fulfillment in life. We approach therapy from the perspective that, at our core, our clients are health seeking but may be repeating old patterns that are not serving them well.

I work well with adult children of alcoholics, transitions (relationship, career, lifestage), occupational issues, trauma, depression, anxiety, panic, fertility,
postpartum
, and family/relationship issues.
I offer practical, solution-focused goal-oriented psychotherapy aimed at timely symptom relief and problem resolution. My clients, being adults, determine their own therapy goals and agenda. My style is respectful, but interactive. I do not tell my clients what to do but I will always tell you honestly how I feel about the things that you present. I believe therapy should be time-limited and results-oriented, NOT a life-long continuous process. I believe that people can change, or else I would not be in this business. I delight in helping people master the tools which facilitate desired change.

I believe in the healing power of a therapeutic relationship where you can be the real you. No judgment or criticism here. Maybe you want to break free from unhealthy patterns, work through issues that have been swept under the rug, or find wholeness. Perhaps life isn't going quite the way you'd hoped or expected. Maybe you long to be secure in who you are and embrace all parts of yourself, to move away from self-criticism and toward self-compassion.

I specialize in working with people experiencing depression, anxiety, adjustment and life transitions, emerging adults, creative block, reproductive issues (infertility,
miscarriage
/recurrent
pregnancy
loss), adoption and parenting.
My therapy approach is to first find out what the client is seeking from therapy, and if they have prior experiences with therapy or art therapy. Then we can set the course, and shape it to meet their needs. I give assignments in between sessions to help clients gain confidence getting where they want to be when they leave therapy. After all, the work of living is not done in a therapy office, so life skills need to be practiced and honed outside of therapy. My work is informed by a combination of cognitive behavioral, relational/feminist, client centered and psycho-dynamic therapy, but not limited by these frameworks.

Years of working with people who have struggled with trauma, depression, anxiety and eating disorders have given me proof of the human capacity for insight, change, growth and connection. I partner with every client to understand and move beyond the maladaptive patterns that get in the way of a life filled with meaning, hope and confidence. Therapy can be a radical process of transformation providing healing, greater sense of belonging, emotional freedom, and hope. I view therapy as a dynamic collaboration that allows for the exploration of current circumstances as well as the discovery of underlying personal and cultural patterns. In addressing your full individual self within your cultural context, we can find not only easing or resolution of symptoms but also a fuller and more meaningful life.

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
