You love your partner, but something's changed. Conversations turn into arguments, or worse, silence. The laughter feels distant, and intimacy feels like a memory. You might lie awake wondering, "How did we get here?" or "Why do I feel unseen?" I have seen many couples who love each other, but do you feel desired? You are not alone. Many couples hesitate to go to counseling, but all it takes is the will and desire to want change. A willingness to fight for the relationship is powerful. Whether you're navigating communication issues, betrayal, or emotional distance, I help couples slow down, reconnect, and rebuild closeness.

Do you find it hard to stay motivated and often catch yourself procrastinating? Do feelings of self doubt and uncertainty cause you to second-guess your choices? You may find yourself shutting down your emotions or struggling to stand up for yourself. Perhaps you set high expectations but feel disappointed when you fall short of your own goals.

Hello! I’m Mike Burbano and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. As a Latine male clinician, I recognize the barriers that BIPOC and male-identifying individuals face around seeking mental health services. The space we create is meant to be safe and affirming of all aspects you identify with - your background, your sexuality, your story. In other words - YOU overall. I don’t believe in an ideal client. What I do believe in is a client that is willing to begin their journey for external support

Sometimes it can feel as though something is fundamentally wrong with you—like you don’t belong or don’t matter. In response, you might ruminate, withdraw, overwork, drink, or distract yourself…yet the feeling still has you in its grip. I help clients change how they relate to their feelings: instead of living at the beck and call of every passing emotion, or trying to fight off unpleasant feelings, you’ll learn to meet your inner experience with awareness and acceptance, and to align your actions with your values and commitments (rather than with your fleeting emotions).

I have a particular interest in helping people find meaning and healing after experiences of spiritual or religious trauma. I work with individuals and couples (straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, and queer) who are exploring intimacy, sexuality, identity, and the effects of depression, anxiety, trauma, and other mental health challenges. As both a therapist and a gay man who has walked his own path of faith and self-acceptance, I bring empathy, curiosity, and authenticity to the work we do together. My goal is to help clients unpack shame, rejection, or loss of belonging and move toward a sense of wholeness and peace.

Sometimes it is time to just stop. Stop believing that voice in your head that is so demanding, so critical, so unkind. Stop running, stop fighting, stop avoiding, stop numbing. Sometimes it is time to start. Start waking up, start feeling more alive, start coming home, start loving yourself and others more deeply than ever before. Becoming more present in this constantly beeping and flickering culture of ours is the major personal challenge of the 21st century. Feelings of joy and contentment take place now, not in the future or the past. Experiencing your feelings fully is the key to opening the door to a more satisfying life.

Struggling to feel confident in who you are — especially in groups? Do you want to be a leader, speak up, or just feel seen—but worry others won’t understand your lived experience, your identity, or even your reality? You know your values. You know your truth. But voicing them feels risky. Maybe you've even thought, "My brown ass/gay ass can't say that out loud." And yet, deep down, you know business as usual just isn’t cutting it anymore. You’re ready for CHANGE.

I believe that everyone needs help. Everyone struggles, but some of our struggles are harder to talk about than others. Sometimes life can be so difficult, and it can feel like you are alone with no one to support you. The good news is that even if you feel that way now, you don’t have to stay there. In my life, I have had many wonderful people who have come alongside me when I’ve been struggling. It would be my honor to do the same for you. Some issues like porn use, pornography addiction, and sex addiction can feel especially isolating and difficult to talk about.

Along the journey of life, some challenges and suffering are inevitable and there often are not always clear or easy answers. We want our lives to have value, meaning and purpose. Knowing these things for ourselves can be a tremendously liberating and empowering experience that gives us the hope, courage, and tenacity we need to face life's challenges. However, the process of discovering or defining these "truths" can be confusing, frustrating or even scary. We all require support and solidarity from trusted comrades during our journey. Knowing when to stop and ask for help along the way does not make us weak, it makes us strong!

Seeking support is not often easy, and in engaging with therapy you have taken a very important step. I believe that there is no single therapeutic method that works for all people, and I instead look forward to meeting you where you are, building a trusting relationship, and collaborating with you on your goals while we create a personalized path towards empowering you and reducing your suffering. In walking this path together, we can work towards a better understanding of your Self, including your joys, sorrows, challenges, and strengths, as well as how you navigate the world.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
