Male Therapists in Chicago, IL

I am a gay therapist that finds meaning working with individuals with histories of trauma, complex family dynamics, and those in toxic relationships with themselves and others. I also work with LGBTQ couples and mixed neurotype couples who want to explore open relationships, polyamory, and how to feel more connected and safer with their partners. My role as a therapist is to help my clients understand the symptoms that once protected them from trauma with the wisdom and compassion of your present self and encourage them to feel confident while you practice new skills to look ahead.

In a word, my approach to coaching and therapy is relational. I am at my best when I am centered, curious and genuinely engaged in my client's experience. I believe in the importance of finding the right "fit" and therefore, value authenticity very highly. My training, areas of specialization and personal style are well suited for those who might be seeking to go deeper in order to live and connect more fully.

I believe that as we evolve and grow, our connections with ourselves, others and the world around us can become deeper and more fulfilling. However, when we are under stress, in a relationship crisis, or feel anxious or depressed, our connections to our loved ones and to ourselves are limited. We may be unable to communicate, feel angry, lack energy and feel overwhelmed. In order to relieve life's pressures, it is important to slow down, and become more self-aware--reconnecting with ourselves once again. Counseling fosters trust, and is a process that promotes growth and change.

Choosing to pursue therapy can be a vulnerable choice and one that requires commitment and authenticity. As a gay man, I believe it is particularly important to find a space where you feel that you can be your authentic self. To me, therapy is a space to be vulnerable, learn about yourself, set goals, and develop skills. My goal is to create a collaborative space in which you feel heard, accepted, and adequately challenged to non-judgmentally explore whatever brings you to therapy. This includes ensuring that the space is inclusive of all genders, abilities, sexual orientations, racial/ethnic identities, and other identities.

Life gets heavy. Stress builds up. Moods crash. Anxiety won’t let go. Old patterns keep repeating no matter what you try. If you’re worn out from holding it all together, you’re not alone. Are you ready to feel better? Ready to make real change? Reaching out takes courage, and I’m glad you’re here.
Therapy offers a space to slow down, sort through the noise, and reconnect with yourself, your values, and the people who matter most. Whether it’s anxiety, burnout, relationship struggles, or simply navigating life’s challenges, you don’t have to do it alone.

At the heart of my perspective is the idea that as a therapist I have a special kind of role and potential for influence on people's lives. At the same time, I am participating as a fellow human being with an array of emotions and personal tendencies not unlike those of the people who come to me for help. And indeed, as is common of people in the field, and even as is required in formal analytic training, I’ve been a patient myself (hopefully yielding enhanced self-awareness). So I know what it’s like from both sides.

Therapy can provide a space for healing, clarity, and growth. The relationship between therapist and client has been found to be the most important ingredient in that process. I approach my work with flexibility, compassion, and a deep respect for self-determination. I believe you are the expert in your experience.
I help people with a range of concerns such as anxiety, trauma, identity, life transitions, grief/loss, sex and relationship issues. Currently, I am a first year psychoanalytic candidate at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis. I eagerly welcome referrals from those interested in a psychoanalytic approach to therapy.

We all want to live happy and productive lives and we all have strengths that help us do this. Strengths lie in our relationships and inside of us. Sometimes blocks keep us from being able to use our strengths. I'm not currently accepting new clients, but at Chicago Center for Relationship Counseling, we have many excellent therapists who are available to help access strengths and lift blocks.

I desire to help people process their trauma, understand their reactions, establish healthy boundaries, and build a thriving community. I am passionate about working with individuals and groups to provide lasting healing and self-leadership. I am passionate about working with trauma and compulsive behaviors

I am a relationship and sex therapist, and I believe that living authentically for self and community brings healing and joy. Such authenticity requires an exploration of sexual needs amidst robust boundary-making. I am a part of and love to work with folx in the LGBTQIA+ community. My clinical interests include out-of-control sexual behavior, men's sexual health, and exploring the intersection of religion, spirituality, and sex. I also have a growing specialization in working with kink, BDSM, polyamory, and consensual non-monogamy.

Throughout our lives we go through experiences that help us define who we are. These moments of connection and isolation, fulfillment and confusion are foundational events that make us, us. These can be life altering experiences; societal forces, traumatic events, difficult relationships, or a series of distressing events that we carry for the rest of our lives. Working through these experiences can be scary. Therapy can help us unpack these moments and lead more meaningful and fulfilling lives. In our sessions, we will explore who you are; your world, beliefs, and values.

My practice focuses on helping people heal from trauma (PTSD, racial, identity based, complex, narcissistic abuse, childhood, sexual, etc). I am a good fit for people who struggle with identifying their internal feelings and needs, and are prone to feeling a sense of abandonment and chronic loneliness. I work well with folks struggling with internalized perfectionism. I help folks, especially in the marginalized or minority communities, come to terms with the hurt that exists in the world, and help them build a sense of self that is independent of external circumstances. My work is present-focused, past-honoring, and future-oriented
