It is normal, on occasion, for everyone to experience some anxiety dealing with life. But lately those feelings have become overwhelming. Over time, it feels like you are anxious about everything, and nothing. The worry is starting to creep into every aspect of your life- work, family , relationships,... even going to get out of bed feels overwhelming some days! You are not going crazy, and you are not alone- anxiety is one of the most common reasons people reach out to for help. Therapy can help get things back to normal.

Suffering is often the result of less than nurturing relationships and experiences. Fear can become imprisoned in the body. Family and culture can dictate how safe it is, or not safe, to express and be yourself. My own immigrant experience from Taiwan allows me deeper empathy with people navigating challenging life transitions and relating to different cultures, and even new relationships. I strive to empower individuals within the context of systemic injustice and complications. My work is to provide compassion and wisdom so that you can feel fully alive and authentic in your body, in your world and in your relationships.

If you are looking for an experienced therapist who is compassionate, insightful, positive, supportive, humorous and directive, then call me for a free consultation. In addition to teaching coping skills and parenting skills, I help family members to better understand each other to help improve communication patterns. Also, if you have a child, adolescent or significant other that is refusing to come to therapy, I can help. I am currently charging as self pay at a very reasonable $75 per session. I integrate family -systems & empowerment-based models with CBT & Psychodynamic theory.
In my work, I focus on equipping children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families with the insight, knowledge, tools, and skills to live healthy and balanced lives. Often, my clients already have the personal strengths and relationship skills that they will need to live a healthier life, and my work involves simply helping them uncover and utilize these strengths. I aim to empower clients to advocate for themselves within the contexts in which they live. I strive to provide therapy that is culturally and contextually informed and that integrates psychological research and theory to provide the best and most appropriate care.

In family /marital, we seek to understand each family member and work to improve communication, trust, balance and harmony.
The therapists in our practice joined together because of our shared belief that our clients, who have reached out for help in managing and overcoming the challenges their lives, each have a unique set of strengths that often need to be better understood and developed. In our own styles, we each use the therapeutic relationship to understand what is interfering with an individual's sense of fulfillment in life. We approach therapy from the perspective that, at our core, our clients are health seeking but may be repeating old patterns that are not serving them well.

I am a practicing and licensed psychotherapist specializing in working with children ages 1-10 and their families. My focus is on understanding the strengths and challenges of each child and then developing a treatment protocol designed to best support the child in the context of their family and larger community. While working with children in therapy, I often work extensively with the parents so that they can understand the emotional challenges beneath their child's behaviors and be an active part of their child's healing long term.

My experience includes supporting individuals with histories of trauma, developmental disabilities, mood disorders, and complex family dynamics.
Are you feeling overwhelmed and exhausted by carrying so many feelings and experiences? Often, our experiences and the accompanying emotions and thoughts can feel too heavy to hold all by ourselves. That’s where I come in. In my own experiences as a clinician, the process of co-creating a safe, trusting holding space with a compassionate and caring helper who listens to understand you can offer profound healing and transformation.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in Chicago are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in Chicago then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.

How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in Chicago, or Child Psychologists in Chicago.

Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like Chicago psychologists specializing in EMDR.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in Chicago specialize in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
