I am interactive, relational and have a great respect for those who have the courage to ask for help. Most people contact me when feeling anxiety or depression due to life's challenges. My intent is to help you alleviate emotional distress as you access inner strength, identify options for change and implement a course of action. Though many of my clients are individuals I have a special interest in couple and family work.

Along the journey through life challenges are inevitable and there aren't always easy or clear answers about why things happen and what to do about them. We want our lives and life itself to have value, meaning and purpose; and finding or creating these things for ourselves can be confusing, frustrating and even scary. However, finding our deeper reason(s) in life can also be rewarding, exciting and empowering experience that provides the hope, courage, strength and tenacity needed to face life's challenges. Having the courage to begin this process and asking for support along the way doesn't mean you're weak, it makes you strong!

I work with individuals and couples (including those in polyamorous or non-monogamous relationships) to explore sexual/gender identity, intimacy and relationships, self-image, anxiety, and depression. I'm a kink and sex positive practitioner, with the understanding that these practices are culturally and societally influenced. I am committed towards exploring all your interests with a value centered and pleasure focused framework. My intention is to foster a collaborative, empathic relationship with you. You are the expert in your life, and I vow to appreciate the experiences and values you bring into this space.

My clients want to make changes in their lives. They believe that healing is possible for both body and mind. When they feel safe enough, they bravely share the old stories about themselves and the no-longer-helpful ways of dealing with the world that kept them feeling sick or stuck. They keep showing up when the going gets rough, because they’ve seen for themselves that they can trust the process, and they’re willing to keep working it until it works, one day at a time.

Relationships are challenging and trauma, depression, anxiety, PTSD, worry, shame and guilt are just some of the things that can hinder you from not only achieving a healthy relationship but also being the best version of yourself. As a Couples and Family therapist I help individuals, couples and families achieve relationship satisfaction, gain a deeper understanding of self and each other and heal from wounds that are negatively impacting the ability to heal. I believe that each individual in a relationship has their own individual thoughts and beliefs that are impacted by childhood and the families we are born into.

I work with a wide-ranging group of young adults and adults struggling with full-spectrum eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and body image concerns, as well as depression, anxiety, trauma, and navigating life changes/periods of transition. Making peace with your body is a radical act in the context of a culture obsessed with dieting, weight, and body size. I work from a Health at Every Size (HAES) framework and believe all humans and all bodies are deeply worthy of compassionate and skilled treatment. I also have a special passion for working with young adults navigating emerging adulthood.

Whatever reason brought you here, I am inspired by your bravery; you’ve taken the first step! It’s important to me that you have autonomy over your therapy. Here’s some insight into me to help you decide if I am the right person to accompany and support you on your journey. I am passionate about finding the root causes of undesired emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. I encourage healing through non-judgmental compassion, education, and mindfulness. I typically practice through a feminist, trauma-informed theoretical lens, although I embrace eclectic approaches to best suit your unique identity.

Life has its ups and downs, and at times we all feel stuck and not sure how to change but we know "something" has to change. I am here to help you! 85% of the time Depression and Anxiety co-exist. Depression takes away our motivation, energy and our ability to connect with others which only leads us to further sadness. Anxiety is ever present in our daily lives with thoughts of worry and over thinking everything. There is hope using cutting edge therapies such as Neuroscience, CBT, ACT, MCT and EMDR. These techniques bring the science to therapy.

Our authentic connections to one another sustain us as human beings. Often past harm or invalidation make us further disconnected from ourselves and each other. By moving beyond binaries created and sustained by capitalism and other constructs of oppression, I pathologize systems and not people. I work to create an environment that affirms a person’s complete and complex humanity with a sense of compassion free from judgments or imposed expectations. When we establish secure and affirming relationships, we have the ability to embrace our authentic selves and the numerous possibilities of transformation.

During these stressful times, do you feel overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed? Recovering from a traumatic experience, or dealing with a life transition, work stress, or relationship challenges? I provide compassionate, generous listening and practical tools to soothe anxiety and anger so you can reach a calmer state and clear-sighted perspective. Through the therapy process, clients typically make effective, long-term lifestyle changes that promote well-being and more balance in life. With couples counseling, I incorporate evidence-based approaches, combining Gottman's work with Terry Real's Relational Life Therapy.

How can I find a therapist in Chicago?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
