I’m happy to meet with you and your child or adolescent to evaluate whether psychotherapy can help with their social, emotional or behavioral difficulties.
Life can be challenging even under the best of circumstances... You may be feeling stuck, worried, anxious or depressed in ways that affect your social, school or professional relationships, color social interactions, or deter you from reaching goals or being the person you want to be. These difficulties may derive from ways of coping that were essential in dealing with important figures or circumstances earlier in your life. Therapy can be a powerful way of using another relationship to identify these coping strategies and their reasons for being, developing a more effective way of being yourself and relating to others.

When it comes to youth, there is no manual for navigating life as a child or teenager and it’s especially challenging when they’re struggling.
My name is Dymond Hollins and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. My passions include working with adults that are struggling with reaching their life’s goals; specifically related to their vocation, relationships, addictions, life skills, self-esteem and general mental health. I also have experience with children, adolescents and teenagers as well. I have 25 years of experience in the treatment of issues including: relationship struggles, postpartum depression and anxiety, low self-esteem, marital conflict, adolescent treatment and generalized anxiety and depression.
The therapists in our practice joined together because of our shared belief that our clients, who have reached out for help in managing and overcoming the challenges their lives, each have a unique set of strengths that often need to be better understood and developed. In our own styles, we each use the therapeutic relationship to understand what is interfering with an individual's sense of fulfillment in life. We approach therapy from the perspective that, at our core, our clients are health seeking but may be repeating old patterns that are not serving them well.

Finding the right therapist is incredibly important and I strive to create a non-judgmental and safe therapeutic environment. I work primarily with individual adult clients with a specialization in working with emerging adult women (ages 18 - 30) but also treat adolescents and their parents when the adolescent is struggling with an eating disorder. Within therapy, I focus on understanding your emotions, expressing your emotions in a healthy and constructive way, relationships, and how early childhood and family experiences have affected you so you are better able to create healthy coping mechanisms for the stresses of daily life.

With life changing at such a rapid pace, you may feel it's difficult to cope with daily routines, or things aren't the way they used to be. We have all been though a huge upheaval the past few years. Maybe your child/tween/ teen /20 yr old has become surprisingly disagreeable, and is asserting an unusually strong sense of independence, spending less time with family, pushing you away, shutting down, refusing to go to school/grades dropping, spending long hours on social media, or are in their room with the door shut. You may notice changes in appearance, style or name. Whether sudden or gradual, you may not know how to help or cope.

Therapy transformed my life when I was referred to a counselor years ago as a teen . Since then, I have wanted to provide this type of support and to serve as a guide for others through difficult times in life. I aspire to help my clients tap into their own inner strengths, so they can ultimately live more freely, fully and authentically. I take a client-centered approach, and help my clients identify their own goals for themselves.

Do you find it so difficult to focus that it interferes with your work, school, or relationships? Do you or your teen become easily distracted? Is it really hard to remain organized despite your best efforts? Inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity are three common problems associated with ADHD, which affects about 5% of people. It is much more serious than just having trouble concentrating. ADHD creates real difficulties for teens and college students at school, presents barriers to adults' success at work, and strains relationships between people with ADHD and those who care about them.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
