My practice specializes in helping clients of all racial-ethnic backgrounds become more self-aware of "who they are on the inside and outside." Consider your work with me as a cultural awareness journey of self-discovery! I have extensive experience working on racial issues such as White Privilege & racial oppression with Whites, Blacks, and Latin cultures. What do you want out of life? What's your purpose in life? How do you know if you're operating in it? I empower clients to think, feel, and behave in ways that help them meet their goals. I help clients with goal setting, anxiety, depression, and career/life goals.

***PLEASE NOTE: I am not taking new clients at this time.*** Connection is our deepest wanting, and greatest fear. Seeking therapy is a chance to rebuild, strengthen or change the way we connect to others, and most importantly ourselves. I value the relationship I build with clients, as it provides a safe pathway for exploration into your own deepest wants and fears. Together, we find healing and growth for a life of your choosing - and integrate parts of the self that may have been disjointed, dismissed or lost. Being able to show up with our whole self allows us to have more authentic and meaningful relationships.

I view therapy as a safe and sacred space for processing life experiences, emotions, thoughts, and trauma in order to achieve one’s goals and necessary growth. My goal as a therapist is to collaborate with clients to understand their thought processes, address barriers to wellness, and identify ways in which they can achieve their goals. I believe that clients are the experts of their own lives: however, sometimes we need an outside perspective to help re-frame our thinking. I’m here to work with you to increase self-awareness and empower you to approach life in a way that enhances health and well-being.

My ideal client is looking for a counselor who has worked in many roles during their professional career and is seeking a change agent and an strong advocate - someone who will work tirelessly to help them overcome their problems and achieve balance and emotional well-being. Throughout my career, I have served as a steadfast advocate for immigrant groups, refugees, and people of color. I am passionate about social justice issues. I have been especially involved in working with the Black and Latinx communities in my home states of California and Illinois and use evidence-based treatment to help my clients reach their goals.

Maybe it is hard to pinpoint exactly where these feelings are coming from, or perhaps you find yourself avoiding thinking about a specific experience. When you continue to avoid thinking about and feeling your experiences, sleep may become difficult, or you could find yourself increasingly irritable and on edge. If you continue to distract yourself or find a quick fix, this can end up causing problems in other areas of your life. However, with practice, it is possible to develop healthier ways of thinking about ourselves, more manageable reactions to events in our lives, and improve well-being. It is possible to adjust and heal.

There can be quite a range of feelings, thoughts and questions in the search for a therapist… but I'm truly so glad you are here. While it may take time to build and nourish, I believe that an authentic therapeutic relationship is foundational to maintaining an empowered therapy space. Interpersonal work can be enlightening, confusing and vulnerable all at the same time. A strong therapy/client fit is crucial in holding that space safely. I prioritize a trauma-informed/relational approach and have a passion for walking alongside young adults in their journey through relationships, self-esteem, anxiety and trauma.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in Chicago are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in Chicago then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.

How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in Chicago, or Child Psychologists in Chicago.

Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like Chicago psychologists specializing in EMDR.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in Chicago specialize in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
