Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes, even the strongest people amongst us need a little bit of help to work through some of life’s more challenging problems. Everyone has battles to fight and hurdles to overcome at some point. Whether you struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, or any other issue, you should know that there is hope for a better tomorrow.

Emotional pain, confusion, mental and social disconnection is real. In short or full throttle, these can stifle your life cycle, entice family discord and chaos, and take smiles away for generations of persons involved. What you don't realize while spinning in dispare is that calm, relief, and peace is possible and is within you all the while. You don't have to do it alone. You can put your life back together, change it to be exactly how you want it to be, and get back to an enjoyable life as only you can uniquely create and understand.

My primary goal as a Counselor is to create a safe environment that allows my clients to address issues that may be preventing them from living their life to its fullest potential. I meet my clients where they are and build positive rapport and great connections that helps move them closer to their therapeutic goals. I focus on issues my clients are dealing with at hand, then we together find out what is needed to accomplish goals. The WHY my clients are seeking counseling is the WHAT tools I use to assist them in living out their life to its fullest potential.

In the dim, silent corners of your room, sadness and worry consume you. Each day feels like a challenging trek through dense fog, making even the smallest tasks seem daunting. Activities that once brought joy now feel dull because self-doubt and fear cloud your mind. Despite reaching out for help, the advice you receive offers no comfort. Instead, it deepens your sense of being lost and hopeless.

I would like to work with clients who are open to explore their history, make connections to the present, and prepare for the future. My ideal client is willing to be open and honest during the process of therapy, and use the safe space as a way to learn and grow. I would like to collaborate with individuals who are open to be challenged and do the work outside of therapy that will help them commit to life-long changes.

Life is ever changing, and with change can bring a plethora of other emotions including stress, depression and anxiety. It takes strength to seek help when we are feeling most vulnerable. I aim to create a safe, warm, and supportive connection with another person and use that connection to cultivate change. I’d like to help you become empowered to accomplish your own goals and to take control of your life. All transitions are difficult, whether it is anticipated or unexpected change. As adults, we have many responsibilities to uphold. This can include career, relationships, and family, emotional and physical health.

What drew me to the practice of therapy rings true more in 2023 than ever before: connection. At a time in the world that demands distance, therapy offers us a curious and compassionate entryway to reconnecting to the most intimate parts of ourselves, our wants, our bodies, and our partner(s). I enjoy working with adult individuals and couple systems around topics of modern dating, conflict management, communication, and (re)building intimacy.

At times, we need help navigating struggles that influence our relationships and quality of life. As a clinical psychologist, I emphasize the importance of the relationship between the client and therapist within a safe, nonjudgmental environment. Through the use of insight-oriented and collaborative therapy, a process of change can occur, one can manage their mental health problems, and one can utilize coping strategies to improve relationships and other difficulties in life.

For most people, the process of making changes is challenging, multi-faceted, layered with complex emotions, and slower than we’d prefer. It is a brave and powerful choice to strive for something new. I aim to normalize and transform therapy to a setting where people can bring their sense of worth, dignity, and pride along with their questions, challenges, and curiosities. One of the first goals in therapy is to develop a strong partnership. As a client, you should feel like you set the pace for therapy and that your therapist is actively trying to understand your experiences and perspective.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
