I offer any
spirituality
/faith-informed counseling upon request and have extensive experience working with the Christian community.
Let's be honest- adulting is hard. Establishing a career, moving to a new city, dating, making friends...while all of these things are great, they can also be sources of stress, anxiety, and confusion. Sometimes, you just need a place to talk through it all. Therapy is a way to process and clarify your goals, learn more about yourself, and develop skills to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you see yourself ideally.

Often we find ourselves in our life's journey seemingly finding that the right road has been lost. Have your dreams for yourself changed? Do you lack clarity for what your life could look like? Have you experienced past trauma that seems to return to your mind when you least expect it? Has your own view of
spirituality
changed or shifted over the years? Have you experienced trauma from religion due to who you are? Are you seemingly in a hamster wheel of actions looking for a change? If any of this resonates with you, I can help you re-create your own path through life.

This includes your relationship with a variety of areas of life, including culture, relationships, work,
spirituality
, and most importantly, your relationship with your Self.
Whether you’re seeking therapy due to dissatisfaction regarding a specific issue in your life or just trying to find peace in the midst of world events, I strive to help clients develop self-compassion, resilience, healing and greater happiness. While suffering is a normal part of being human, therapy provides a safe space to explore our response to internal and external stresses and develop a greater sense of peace, meaning, and fulfillment. In addition to genuine concern and empathy, clients have mentioned my 'particular blend of pragmatism and humor' as helpful in establishing a collaborative therapeutic relationship.

I also bring a liberatory & intersectional lens to therapy, focusing on issues related to gender, race, culture, class, migration, sexuality,
spirituality
, & intergenerational & historical trauma.
To me, therapy is about seeking wholeness; it is a journey of more fully integrating our minds, bodies, & souls. Many of us live trapped in patterns & scripts that weigh us down & that keep us from living full, authentic lives. As a trauma-informed therapist (& former spiritual director), I take into consideration the whole person, noting that past or ongoing traumas, wounds, & injustices shape the way we understand and engage with ourselves and the world. I help clients draw connections between formative past experiences & current ones in order to identify & shift those relational patterns & ongoing struggles.

I have worked with individuals, couples, families, and children experiencing anxiety, depression, miscommunication, grief, personality disorders, autistic spectrum disorders, behavior disorders, religion/
spirituality
, LGBTQ+ identity, self-esteem, transitions, work/life balance, foster care/adoption, history of traumatic events, and suicidal ideation.
As I experience all the shifts life has to offer, I have developed more of an understanding of the value in considering others and my own mindset. Problems, uncertainty, and challenges are not going away; they are always going to be in our lives. The thought things must always be set in stone is an illusion from the start. However, if we change our mindset and change those same problems, uncertainty, and challenges into growth moments without limitations or limiting beliefs and focus on solutions; we are left feeling empowered to create change, and I am excited to go on the journey with you.

I think that underneath everything, we are all wishing to be Seen and Heard for whom we perceive our truest Self to be. Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.
What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.
Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.
How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
