If you struggle with anxiety or depression you may have found that the day to day can feel overwhelming. You may have noticed that your sleep is being impacted, patience with others is lessening, staying focused or organized is becoming harder, or you may generally feel tired or restless. Are your thoughts taking over or do you do everything to avoid your thoughts? Maybe you are in a relationship and find communication difficult with arguments that lead into the early morning hours or saying things to hurt one another? Are you reaching out because what you have tried on your own is not providing the change you are seeking?

Do you live in your head where you rethink all that you do? Is it hard to sleep at night due to life's stressors? Are you seeking direction and purpose in your life? Wearing a mask to exist through life can be draining and hard to maintain. On the other hand, developing the courage to share your true feelings authentically and inner emotions can be liberating. Therapy is where you can create positive habits and rituals to help manage stressors, heal trauma, and live a healthy life. Living with intentionality takes strength, awareness, and daily practice.

Change is never easy, but with the assistance of a therapist, you can start to learn skills to move towards your goals. He loves to get a couple pets and sleep the day away while we work together.
Welcome! I believe in meeting a new client where they're at, taking time to build a strong therapeutic alliance, and focusing on how to help you become the best version of yourself. I am an EMDR Certified clinician who specializes in healing trauma, utilizing a combination of EMDR, mindfulness, CBT and yoga in sessions where appropriate and welcomed. Many are surprised to learn that we have all experienced trauma to varying degrees, and that often times these traumas, and the negative beliefs connected to them, are the cause of unwanted symptoms like depression, anxiety, low self esteem, or relationship issues.

I enjoy working alongside individuals and couples as they search for congruence between their actions and personal moral codes. Clients managing specific medical conditions and the resulting impact on their mental health are always welcomed. Additionally, parties managing and exploring their sexual functioning, seeking to build their self-efficacy, desiring a space that allows for more vulnerability, wanting to engage in self-exploration and many things in-between often benefit from participation in the therapy process. I seek to honor the practice of not doing anything to clients but rather working alongside them on their goals.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
