I specialize in trauma work from an
attachment-based
lens, focusing on parental, family and generational traumas. Your brain and body are not just connected but are a single system- your nervous system. This is why your body also carries trauma and stress. I integrate somatic/body-based therapies to help with managing strong emotions, numbness and dissociation. Learning how to ground yourself, both feel and regulate your emotions, and form healthy attachments in your relationships can be life-changing. Trauma can change your brain and your connection to your body, but we’ve proven healing to be equally powerful.

Most recently, the bulk of my work is trauma-informed, relying heavily on
attachment-based
models of therapy, as well as sensorimotor, mindfulness, and neurologically informed interventions.
I consider myself to be a trauma-informed therapist. I believe that each experience in one's life leaves an imprint on the mind & body; thus, informing how one responds to the world. There is a rhyme & reason to these responses, and none of it is about being "wrong," "damaged," or "not good enough" (words I often hear from individuals in my practice). The goal of therapy with me is to help you learn to compassionately connect with, soothe and heal these hurting parts, so that you may be able to let go, engage, and thrive in your personal and professional life. I believe healing is possible for anyone willing to work at it.

I also often incorporate interpersonal and
attachment-based
theories and methods.
My areas of interest include working with adolescents, young adults, and families/couples. In addition, as a South Asian immigrant, I am passionate about working with the BIPOC and immigrant communities to help normalize therapy. I know that these populations often experience struggles specifically relating to their identity and culture and thus I am always working through a culturally competent lens and learning how intersectionality affects one’s mental health. Overall, I help guide those I work with through life challenges, the difficulties of interpersonal relationships, the complex reactions of trauma, and anxiety/stress.

My approach to practice is loss and trauma-informed, from an
attachment-based
, emotionally-focused therapy perspective, always considering the complexity of multicultural aspects that shape our lives.
I am passionate in working with relational issues, either when helping individuals or couples and families. I believe that our relationships have an essential impact on our well-being. I am yet to hear a client or a friend or a family member talk about distress that is not somehow associated to a relational issue... Aren't we all longing to belong and to find safety and security in the arms of our loved ones (partners, parents or very dear friends that are like family)? And yet, these are precisely the people that can hurt us the most.

I deeply respect and value the courage that it takes for an individual to seek therapy. It is an incredible gift to oneself. Echoing the words of Erich Fromm, I wholeheartedly believe that “whether we or not we are aware of it, there is nothing of which we are more ashamed than of not being ourselves, and there is nothing that gives us greater pride and happiness than to think, to feel and say what is ours”. While fostering a therapeutic relationship grounded in trust and authenticity, I seek to emphasize each individual's unique strengths and skills as we sort out the emotional distress together.

Therapy can be a very daunting, ambiguous, and scary process that first begins with finding a therapist that is a good fit for you. The therapeutic relationship is a very unique relationship and a lot different from many of the relationships we experience in our everyday lives. It is the most important component of the therapeutic process, which is why building a strong therapeutic alliance and establishing trust with my clients is my top priority. As a therapist, I emphasize the importance of meeting my clients where they are, being genuine and authentic, and creating space for my clients to safely come back home to themselves.

The decision to pursue therapy requires vulnerability and risk. Choosing a therapist who understands this reality is important. Like most adults, you may be seeking therapy to explore why your relationships are unsatisfying or why you feel unfulfilled. You may hope to understand how painful emotions like shame, sadness, and anger have affected you. Many adults seek solutions on their own, only to feel stuck in repetitive cycles of behavior that produce momentary relief.

I believe in the capacity of the human spirit to grow and change and that psychotherapy is a powerful means for this kind of transformation. As a therapist, you will experience me as a keen observer, helping you to explore and identify patterns in your life and picking up on feelings and emotions that might be hard for you to make contact with. I make use of my creativity and yours to help you see things in a new light and to notice ways of being and coping that aren’t working anymore. I am known for my innate curiosity, intellectual agility and emotional intelligence.

My goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment wherein each client can be their full selves. I strive to see each person holistically with an understanding of how our intersecting identities inform our thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Have you ever felt stuck while in a relationship or confused about who you are or where you want to be in your life? Do parts of you feel lost and insecure while other parts of you are so ready to change and give up old habits? These different parts of us may feel pressure from family, friends, work, school, and society to fit a mold of who we are supposed to be as a person. We may even put the most pressure on ourselves to be in control, strive for perfection, or please others. Yet, deep down we may feel empty, out of control, anxious, or inauthentic. You are not alone.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
