I enjoy helping people with
anxiety
, selective mutism, depression, ADHD, adjustments, communication, parent-child relationships, parenting, family conflict, and people who identify as LGBTQ+.
Do you feel like you have done everything you can to try to feel better, help your child or help your family? Maybe your child can't ever sit still. Maybe you or your child is dealing with
anxiety
or depression. Maybe you are fed up with your family fighting constantly. Maybe you don't know how to talk to your child anymore. Or maybe you don't feel like your parent understands you. No matter when you began facing whatever you are going through right now, you have made the decision to find support, and you are brave and strong for doing so. Everyone has strengths and your strengths can only help you now more than ever.

Psychotherapy relieves emotional distress by restoring and cultivating patients' innate capacities for thought and growth. We all engage the world in idiosyncratic ways developed over the course of our lives, and emotional suffering results when such adaptive measures go awry or no longer serve their original purpose. Understanding the origins of repetitive unsatisfying relationships, low self-esteem,
anxiety
, and other psychological symptoms allows one to make more informed decisions about how to meet one's emotional needs most authentically and effectively.

In searching for a psychotherapist, it is likely that you have a specific problem in mind. When these problems intensify or linger for long periods of time, they can lead to symptoms of
anxiety
and/or depression which interfere with your quality of life and sense of well-being. If you are seeking help in overcoming these difficulties, there are two important factors to consider when choosing a therapist. First, it is important that, after a few visits with the therapist, you feel that there is potential to form a strong working alliance.

), providing profound effects in a short amount of time.
Have you been feeling stuck or feel overrun by your emotions at times? In a safe and judgement-free relationship where you can first feel heard and understood, I can help you more fully understand the unhelpful relational, emotional, and/or thinking patterns that may need adjusting in order to help you live the life you'd like to live. I will offer support, direct feedback, & coping strategies to provide you with skills and more immediate relief, while we work toward increased insight and improved self-awareness, achieving lasting growth and change.

In the 20+ years I have worked in private practice I have treated individuals and families with a variety of presenting problems including
anxiety
, depression, unfulfilling relationships, parenting concerns, identity formation, history of trauma and abuse, autism spectrum concerns, infidelity, and many others.
When a client comes to me for psychotherapy the first goal is to fully understand the nature of their discontent in the context of a warm, open, nonjudgmental space. We work together to create a vision of what it will look like when the client is feeling more content, and then within the therapeutic relationship move toward change that will realize the client's vision. I am a combination of warm, supportive, directive, interpretive, and reflective. The therapy may be short term or long term, and may be individual or with significant others (family or partner).

I specialize in treating
anxiety
, depression, trauma, and life transition stressors (identity, relationship, or work).
Curious if I’m the right fit as a therapist? I generally make only two rules for my therapy space: 1) There's no conversation that's off the table, meaning we can talk about anything here, and 2) I hope you don't drop your identities at the door, meaning all of you is welcomed here. I appreciate you making the decision to focus on your wellness. That's exactly what therapy is for! A cornerstone of my approach involves "me-search". I believe self-knowledge is essential to insight (our ability to identify, understand, and take steps toward our goals). My goal is offering a brave and empowering space to facilitate that transformation.

I work with a variety of concerns, including
anxiety
, depression, LGBTQ+ or Men’s issues, relationships, ADHD, youth and adult bullying and more.
Life can be overwhelming! Sometimes we feel like we don’t measure up or fit in. We can start to feel tired and alone. Maybe we can’t seem to concentrate on work, school or other important areas of our lives. Sometimes what seems like a simple task for others makes us feel nervous and overwhelmed. A therapist is both a safety net and a guide, someone to help you discover and recover from what life throws at you. I will strive to make the time spent together a safe place for you to learn more about you, your uniqueness, and your strengths.

We work with women in their 20s, 30s, & 40s, dealing with
anxiety
, relationship uncertainty, & life transitions.
Do you constantly feel on edge, overwhelmed or anticipate future events with worry and dread? Do racing, ruminating thoughts impact your ability to concentrate on tasks, manage stress or engage socially? Living with
anxiety
can be a distressing, frustrating and sometimes frightening experience. You may be preoccupied by "what if" questions about the future that you can't control, causing your thoughts to spiral and fuel more distressing emotions and physical symptoms. The ongoing, looping cycle of
anxiety
can impact all aspects of your life, including work performance and your relationships.

I hope to alleviate some of the inevitable
anxiety
surrounding the process of self-examination by providing a safe and accepting space to express yourself.
The first step in the therapeutic journey towards self-discovery, peace, and improved happiness is undoubtedly a daunting one. Perhaps you have recently undergone a major life change or have experienced a loss, or maybe you just cannot seem to find the words to express what you are feeling. The truth is that all of us will need extra support at some point in our life, especially within the tumult of current-day affairs, and summoning the bravery to recognize this is no small feat.

You are good. Rarely do folks act in ways that don't make sense to them. Maybe you are experiencing frustration in relationships. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed by sadness,
fears
, or exhaustion. You are human. In this space you will be heard and validated as you discover more about yourself and develop compassion for the parts of you that may seem most dark. And sometimes the path to wellness is to allow ourselves to be discovered more deeply.

We all experience a wide variety of feelings during our life time. Uncomfortable feelings such as
anxiety
, depression, resentment, guilt and shame are often difficult to own and process. When these feelings are not well processed, they disrupt our sense of self-esteem and self-worth. I became an LCSW in 2013 to pursue my passion to help people regain their sense of self-esteem and self-worth. In my practice, I often use therapeutic techniques such as active/empathic listening, reflection, reality testing and boundary setting. These techniques help my clients feel better about themselves and live fuller, more meaningful lives.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
