Assessments are tailored to the individual situation, but typically include a detailed interview; evaluation of relevant cognitive skills; exploration of mood, stress, and broader psychological functioning; and helpful and realistic recommendations.
I'm a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist who helps people impacted by ADHD, strokes, head injuries, procrastination, and executive impairments. I offer individual psychotherapy and neuropsychological assessment to late teens and adults impacted by these issues, as well as LD and other neurologic problems. In therapy, I use cognitive behavioral, assertiveness, and motivational interviewing methods to help you build skills to more effectively manage your symptoms at work and at home. I'm licensed in IL, NY, and also offer telehealth sessions to clients in Psy-Pact participating states (Google: Psypact Map for full details).

I also offer cognitive (IQ) testing, as well as testing for AD/HD and learning disabilities.
I help parents and kids learn to speak the same language, so that parents can respond to challenging behaviors in an effective and confident way, and kids feel safe, supported, and understood. Nobody heals or changes in a vacuum, and so I focus on building supports throughout the systems that my clients live in.

I also offer psychological testing for adults.
According to my mother, my first word was "why." Why is the sky blue? Why can't I have a cookie for breakfast? Why are people hurting? This curiosity is integral to my work as a therapist, as I strive to understand my client's worldview and the problems they are facing. Whether you are reliving past trauma, plagued by worrisome thoughts, concerned about your relationship or substance use, or feeling generally dissatisfied in life, I will provide an empathic ear, support, and guidance to help you meet these challenges and make the life changes you desire.

In addition to individual and couples therapy, I conduct testing for learning disabilities and ADHD.
I feel privileged to be a psychologist and my therapeutic style reflects this appreciation. Building a trusting, collaborative relationship is at the forefront of my work, though I'm aware this looks differently with each of my clients. I see the process of change as occurring in the context of the therapeutic relationship and by exploring patterns that may be preventing one from living a fulfilling existence. Through the discovery of these patterns, we can begin to understand how to live life more genuinely. I incorporate various therapeutic approaches and interventions, which speaks to our unique needs.

I believe the meaning we create from our experiences and environment plays a significant role in shaping how we navigate, adapt, and survive the world. My priority is that we cultivate a collaborative non-judgmental therapeutic relationship that centers on safety, positive regard, genuineness, and openness. Within this space, my clients will be able to freely explore their vulnerabilities, express distressful emotions (pain, grief, anger, etc.), make greater meaning out of their experiences, and redefine past experiences.

You want to work with someone who has ample experience; emphasizes care and discretion. My approach is grounded, thoughtful, and practical. You’ll be surprised at how much you can discover in conversation—how much clearer things can become. Change doesn’t have to be disruptive or dramatic. Sometimes, it starts with a quiet decision to move toward something that speaks more deeply to who you are—and who you’re becoming. We’ll talk, reflect, and build a path forward that feels right for you. That’s where I come in. My job isn’t to tell you what to do, but to help you pause, think more clearly, and decide how and when to make a change.

Testing and Evaluation Therapists

What is a psychological evaluation?

A psychological evaluation is a test or assessment most commonly administered by a trained psychologist that is intended to be used in the diagnosis of specific psychological conditions, such as ADHD, mood disorders, personality disorders, dementia or Alzheimer's, and learning disabilities. Psychological evaluations can help inform future treatment decisions and help direct clients to professionals and resources that may be most helpful, such as potential therapy options or additional school supports.

Can psychological evaluations be done on individuals of any age group?

Psychological evaluations are conducted on individuals of all ages and can be beneficial to individuals across the lifespan. However, specific types of evaluations may be most frequently conducted on individuals of certain age groups. For instance, ADHD or learning disability testing is often conducted in children ages 4-12--the period of time when ADHD symptoms most commonly emerge. In contrast, cognitive functioning assessments, such as those conducted to diagnose dementia, are most commonly conducted in elderly individuals. Clients should ensure that the psychologist they are seeing has specific expertise in conducting evaluations in their age group to ensure they receive a correct diagnosis.

How long does a psychological evaluation take?

Psychological evaluations vary in length depending on the test being administered and the goals of the evaluation; however, most evaluations are 2-4 hours in length. Some evaluations may take as long as 8 hours but can often be spread across multiple days. In some cases, clients will also attend an intake session or interview, which can help the psychologist assess client functioning outside of the testing environment.

How should I prepare for a psychological test and evaluation?

Individuals do not need to prepare for psychological tests or evaluations in most cases, as they are intended to measure a client's baseline psychological status without test-specific preparation. However, clients may want to brainstorm a list of questions for their psychologist about any tests they are receiving prior to the assessment, including what potential outcomes may mean for what next steps the client should take.
