Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, LCPC, NCC, MPA, PACT
I approach my clinical work with an emphasis on relationships, attachment and the importance of multi-cultural and relational approaches. I understand the value of knowing where a client comes from and where they have been in order to collaboratively develop interventions and approaches that are safe, effective and familiar. I believe that in order to truly help clients they, and I, must understand the context in which they live and learn and that the work we do in the clinical room must be transferable to their everyday life. Many of my clients are seeking guidance on how to engage in and maintain healthy relationships.
On the outside things are fine, but on the inside you feel overwhelmed and disconnected. Being a perfectionist has helped you in a lot of areas...you've experienced successes, but you desire more meaning and peace in your life. I will serve as a compassionate guide, helping you feel understood and guided in this process. I will help you discover practical strategies as well as the deeper "whys" to your feelings and thoughts, including the self-criticism. While not all clients choose to incorporate spirituality, for those who do, I can also incorporate faith-based perspectives in alignment with clients' values, stage and needs.
“Greetings, weary traveler.” My name is Catherine and I’m a licensed clinical professional counselor. Though I specialize in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), I live and counsel according to my value of adaptability as I follow Malcolm X’s philosophy of “by any means necessary” when it comes to modifying my approach to help those I’m privileged to work with.
I specialize in treating disorders of anxiety, stress, depression, body image, and self esteem, as well as eating disorders. These obstacles can appear at any point in life, whether it be childhood, adolescence, or adulthood. Now more than ever it is important to make your mental health a priority. Therapy can help you get on track with your goals and learn the tools necessary to overcome the barriers in your life so that you can achieve your optimal success. I utilize a holistic, individualized approach to treat your unique needs in the way that will help you reach your specific goals.
I am a Black Femme from Chicago and currently work as a licensed professional counselor, art therapist, and artist. Utilizing art to shift narratives around healing, mental health, and creating spaces where exploration and re-imagination are valued. I have worked with a range of people across the lifespan in community, correctional, and nonprofit settings. Working with individuals seeking support with addressing anxiety, cultural trauma, depression, and self-esteem.
Life is one continuous transition. We are constantly learning, growing, changing and evolving. I believe therapy is for everyone and we can all benefit from an unbiased perspective in our lives. Together, we'll learn to detach from difficult emotions, reframe negative beliefs and explore grounding techniques. I enjoy working with clients who are working through life transitions (specifically fertility, perinatal, postpartum and parenthood) and navigating interpersonal relationships. I also have a passion working with those questioning life's bigger questions, or trying to gain deeper understanding of self through a spiritual lens.
I believe that therapy is an opportunity for each individual to gain insight about themselves and their relationships, find purpose, and develop strategies for coping with life's challenges. My goal is to create an open and empathic space where you can feel understood and supported. I prioritize the therapeutic relationship itself as the primary tool for change. It can be healing to have a teammate in building positive changes and more positive self-talk.
My approach to therapy is reflective, authentic and insight oriented, with an emphasis on creating a trusting and collaborative relationship. With more than 15 years experience working with individuals, couples and families, my practice is informed by clinical expertise in treating symptoms of trauma, depression, and anxiety. I also counsel for issues related to life transitions, complex relationships, intimacy, parenting, identity, grief and loss. I greet clients with openness and curiosity, engaging a process that best fits their individual needs.

I believe that therapy can be life-changing for anyone; no matter the size or intensity of the stressors in one’s life. I believe that a large part of successful therapy stems from having a good relationship between the client and therapist. Because of that, I strive to be a safe space for my clients where they can talk freely and without the fear of being judged. I love working with clients in college as well as into their 20's and 30's; particularly with the desire to improve self-compassion and the ability to stand up for themselves.
Life can sometimes overwhelm our capacities to cope. The space between who we are and who we want to be can feel vast. In those times, it takes bravery to reach out for support. I’m glad you’re here. You are resilient, capable, and not willing to settle for the status quo. Your reluctance to fit the mold may complicate things, but it’s worth it. Together we will celebrate your uniqueness, investigate the barriers to your progress, and build on your existing strengths to cultivate an authentic future full of possibilities.
I use a collaborative model, where sessions feel like two people having a conversation in my living room, versus a stereotypical doctor/patient interaction. I don't view your issues as coming from an abnormal psychopathology, but instead as a reaction to living in a stressful, complex, and contradictory world. I seek to understand your issues in the context of your unique experience rather than viewing you as having something wrong or being broken. My focus is on what you need from me....I take my lead from you.
Safety, trust and encouragement are imperative ingredients to a successful therapeutic or coaching relationship. As a seasoned therapist and performance coach my ideal client is one who seeks a collaborative relationship and is eager to invest in greater self understanding and willingness to take action. Clients battling stress related issues that compromise performance in work, school, or intimate relationships are a good match. Transforming anxiety, despair and self doubt into courage, inspiration and confidence is my strength. I'm comfortable addressing thoughts that disempower or emotions that are frightening. I believe positivity and curiosity can trump pessimism and criticalness to fuel personal growth.
While they are a vital part of our lives and can bring us so much joy - relationships are complex! Think about it - although people spend years learning and practicing most key skills, many people have had limited opportunity learning about relationships and emotional skills. I work with people who are often very successful in many aspects of their lives, but who get stuck in emotional or relational patterns. They know they desire for things to be different and more satisfying but are not quite sure how to get there. That's where therapy can be a powerful platform for change!
You are not alone. Fear, anger, anxiety, insecurity are some ways our minds informs us that we are in need of something more. Maybe it is quitting an unhealthy habit, discovering who you are, or setting new boundaries in relationships. I will work with you to discover how to change the behavior or thought patterns that may be keeping you from thriving and feeling empowered in your own life.
We live in a stressful, complex, and contradictory world. And though you do your best to cope with the chaos around you, sometimes it gets overwhelming. The chaos can make you question your decisions - sometimes it can even make you question who and how you are. Why are there so many obstacles to the life and relationships you want? Shouldn’t there be a clearer path? It can be so hard to navigate through the noise. Craving to connect more fully but end up feeling needy and more alone. Wanting to feel safe, but unease grows and bleeds through. Striving to be authentic, but there is so much noise it is hard to hear your true self.

Therapy is about finding someone who matches your style. Someone who will listen with an open ear and remains non-judgmental, all while pushing you outside of your comfort zone. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important piece of therapy. In life you will encounter a lot of experiences that can leave you with feelings of uncertainty, overwhelmed, and overall dissatisfaction. The decision to seek therapy is positive and courageous, and I’m glad you have made this choice. As a therapist, I believe in bridging the gap that can ultimately lead you on the path to being the best version of yourself.
