I approach my clinical work with a grounding in my deeply-held belief that all human beings have infinite worth. My goal for all individuals with whom I work is to support each person's path towards experiencing that worth within themselves. Having worked in the mental health field for the past 16 years with children, adolescents, adults, and families, I have utilized this philosophy to guide the process of therapy with individuals having a wide range of challenges, from autism spectrum disorders to struggles with mood and anxiety to relationship problems.

I thoroughly enjoy working with the following populations: BIPOC, 1st & 2nd Generation Immigrants, Sex workers, Survivors of Human Trafficking, Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse Survivors, LGBTQIA+., Adult Children of Abusive Parents.
I love my work and I am thrilled to be a part of the global community that strives to bring an effective blend of experience, expertise, clarity, concern and action to the counseling process in order to provide genuine healing and wholeness to children, young adults, adults, marriages, and families. Over the last six years or so I have learned wonderful attachment therapies like Theraplay. This model, along with different Expressive therapy approaches, and EMDR protocols, have increased my desire to continue learning to be able to integrate the different trauma-informed practice with neuroscience.
My name is Carmen Martinez, Bilingual Counselor Intern at Holistically Divine Counseling pursuing a master’s in clinical psychology at Benedictine University. I deeply believe all humans have a purpose, a God-given talent, ability, desire, and light within them to be the best version of themselves and the natural will to live their best lives possible throughout their journey. Sometimes, that light within can become dim and distant due to life’s struggles, challenges, and adversities.
I provide individual therapy rooted in attachment-based therapy; drawing from diverse methodologies appropriate to diverse individuals with unique needs. I believe that presenting a warm, safe, and comfortable environment is essential for therapeutic growth. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), with a Masters in Counseling Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Currently accepting clients paying out of pocket; BCBS IL & Aetna coverage accepted soon! While life's challenges and transitions are often times when we feel greater anxiety and stress, I believe they are also opportunities for self-understanding and growth. Whether you are dealing with stress in relationships or at work, feeling worn out or depressed, or struggling to cope with a loss, you don't have to work through it alone. I strive to provide a safe, supportive and reflective environment where clients can feel comfortable to explore their concerns, feelings, and relationship patterns and build upon their strengths to develop different ways of understanding, coping, and relating to themselves and others.
we heal in relationship. we heal in community. activating our personal and collective healing is the core of realizing our capacity for change. through a collaborative therapeutic process, we work together to explore your emotional landscape, experiences, family and community dynamics, social and economic systems that impact this, and identify practices that support your embodied adaptation and healing. together, we hold space for intentional change that grows our "capacity to embody the liberated and just worlds we long for." we engage in healing through a liberatory and embodied practice-- 100% virtual/telehealth.
Hello! Choosing a therapist can sometimes feel intimidating and burdensome but for me, it starts with establishing a positive connection. I have a deeply rooted belief that through positive human connection & service we can help each other heal, repair ruptures in our relationships, & rebuild our communities. My ability to connect with clients, establish a foundation of trust, & engage them in meaningful work early in the therapeutic process is a gift & privilege that I don’t take lightly. I’m here to be a partner who walks alongside you - I am known for being honest, direct, welcoming, creative, & infusing fun into therapy!
Does your toddler, preschooler or elementary school aged child ignore your instructions? Do they whine, argue, fight with siblings, hit, or bite? Are you exhausted, do you have disagreements with your significant other about how to deal with these issues, or are you a single parent feeling overwhelmed and unsupported?
I believe that therapy is an opportunity for each individual to gain insight about themselves and their relationships, find purpose, and develop strategies for coping with life's challenges. My goal is to create an open and empathic space where you can feel understood and supported. I prioritize the therapeutic relationship itself as the primary tool for change. It can be healing to have a teammate in building positive changes and more positive self-talk.
There are many factors in life that can affect our emotional well-being and functioning. This can leave us feeling overwhelmed, powerless, or just not our best self. Through a collaborative approach, I aim to help you manage whatever unwanted feelings and symptoms you may be experiencing. No matter how big or small you feel your challenges may be, I believe we can all benefit from taking time out of the busyness of life to focus on ourselves. I am here to support you and empower you during this process.
Biofeedback training is an evidence-based, short-term, mind-body therapy in which clients learn to control physical responses to stress that are often involuntary and can feel uncontrollable. During a session with Dr. Pabst, she will utilize biofeedback sensors to scientifically track in-session breath patterns, muscle tension, perspiration, and heart-rate so you can receive visual and/or auditory feedback on your physical responses. As a result, you can see your innate stress responses in real-time, learn what triggers them and ultimately have the ability to self-regulate.
My therapeutic style focuses on safety and empowerment. While I may be the “professional,” you are the expert of your own life. To establish trust, I wear my heart on my nerdy sleeve. I would never ask you to risk your vulnerability if I am unwilling to risk my own. I may use humor to foster hope and ease discomfort. I welcome you to question my perspectives to improve the power of our co-created insights. We will collaborate and develop ways for you to make new choices, break old patterns, and build more effective supports. Our work will help you unlock your potential for healing, and get you closer to the person you want to be.
Do you have a sticky mind, and struggle with unwanted and intrusive thoughts, worries or memories? I can help you learn to be at peace with these uncontrollable experiences and move towards a life of meaning. I specialize in working with clients who talk about repeated urges, looping or spiraling anxieties and memories of stressful or traumatic events that will not go away. Similarly, many of my clients also talk about rigid ways of thinking, including high expectations of themselves and others and all-or-nothing thinking, which greatly limits flexibility in our lives.
I am currently accepting only clients who need short-term, crisis support as my practice is full. I support people under pressure, whether the source is professional, medical, or relational. I spent a decade supporting families and professionals managing high risk pregnancy and reproductive mood complications by staffing all units and clinics affiliated with a women's hospital. I have accompanied thousands of people managing high stakes medical decisions, illness or demise, caregiver fatigue in patients or professionals, infertility, and marital conflict.

Our internal pressures as well as those imposed on us by society, culture, and family often mold our behaviors. It is rational to want to understand the barriers in our path through life, but we often lose sight of this when faced with difficult experiences. By exploring the rational and emotional together, we are better able to identify these barriers and the ways of thinking that cause them.
Life has a way of throwing changes, difficult emotions, and various stressors that can feel hard to manage. You may sometimes feel like you are lost or broken and unsure how to move forward. My passion and goal is to support and assist clients in managing the stress and changes they face. I believe that building a supportive, safe, and non-judgmental space leads to a safe space for clients to learn about themselves, find interpersonal growth, and heal. If this is where you are, then let's get started your journey.
