I've had success helping clients who are struggling with a variety of issues, including trauma , sexual assault, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, parent-child relationship and family system issues, depression, anxiety, and adult ADD/ADHD.
I am the owner and psychotherapist at Essential Therapy Chicago. I've had years of experience helping clients grow and find emotional healing in private practice settings. In my work, I aim to create an open, welcoming therapy environment where clients feel empowered to make positive changes in their personal lives and relationships. I work with clients to identify their strengths and to set goals of therapy that are exciting and motivating. I base my practice on an integrative approach which allows me to not only provide short-term symptom relief and mood stabilization, but also to foster longer-term growth and self-explorations.

My graduate studies in Social Work and Women's and Gender studies bridged transformative justice with mindfulness, feminist relations of care and queer liberation with narrative therapy and trauma recovery, and decolonial, anti-racist politics with strength-based, person-centered practices.
I enjoy working with people as a guide to the maps of ourselves-- our identities, histories, relationships, politics, traumas, sexualities, all the parts that make up our broken wholes. As a queer person, I tend to work with other people exploring and expanding their sexualities and gender identities. As someone involved in radical politics, I offer validation and therapeutic solidarity to abolitionists and activists across the spectrum of liberation movements. And as a person with mental illness myself, I offer a dignified and person-centered approach to caring for our most sensitive personal issues and life challenges.

I am also passionate about helping individuals heal from past trauma and use various trauma -informed treatment modalities in my approach to therapy.
We all deserve to be happy and fulfilled in our relationships. However, healthy and meaningful relationships do not come without work. Whether it is with your intimate partner, friends, family or coworkers, the quality of our relationships has a direct impact on our mental health. I help individuals understand how their past experiences, sometimes traumatic, impact their present struggles related to anxiety, stress or depression, and often interfere with their ability to cultivate and maintain relationship satisfaction.

Hi! I am the owner and founder of Urban Counselor LLC. I started this practice during the Pandemic with the intentions of supporting individuals through a globally traumatic time, and I have since expanded my trauma skill set and knowledge to support environmental and complex trauma . I identify as a Heterosexual, Cisgender female. I consider myself spiritual, but unaffiliated with a denomination at this time (Christian rearing however). While I don't have children of my own, much of my clinical experience is in supporting teens and families. My ideal client, will teach me as I support their growth journey.

You may be ready to work through past trauma .
How can we stay flexible and authentic in a world filled with stress? Therapy can be a way to work through problems (old and new!) and learn fresh ways to become resilient. I specialize in working with clients who are struggling with a number of things at the same time (such as life transitions, anxiety, trauma ). My ideal client is someone who is interested in going below surface issues, and potentially including some "body-up" work in their therapy.

I love my work and I am thrilled to be a part of the global community that strives to bring an effective blend of experience, expertise, clarity, concern and action to the counseling process in order to provide genuine healing and wholeness to children, young adults, adults, marriages, and families. Over the last six years or so I have learned wonderful attachment therapies like Theraplay. This model, along with different Expressive therapy approaches, and EMDR protocols, have increased my desire to continue learning to be able to integrate the different trauma -informed practice with neuroscience.

You might be navigating some of life's challenges like trauma , relationship issues, perfectionism, or anxiety. It's overwhelming to feel lost and to experience blocks to your wellbeing, but seeking therapy is a huge step towards feeling less stuck. Do you want to build tools to better understand yourself, process your thoughts and emotions, and maintain compassion for yourself in the face of challenges? It's not always easy to find time or space to understand our past, define who we want to be in the present, and consider what we want for the future, but it's my intention to support clients in building that insight.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a psychological reaction that occurs after an extremely stressful event, such as physical violence or military combat. Those suffering from PTSD have recurring memories of the stressful event and are anxious or scared even in the absence of danger. Flashbacks and nightmares are common symptoms as well.
