I know that starting this process can feel overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. Using warmth, empathy, direct feedback and skill building I can help you more fully understand yourself and your relationships and therefore feel empowered to start living the life you want to live. While it is important to minimize daily struggles that get in the way of being fully present in your life and relationships, I firmly believe that healing comes from exploring how our past experiences have affected the ways in which we interpret and interact with our world in the present.
As a therapist, I am dedicated to creating a safe and calming space for people to explore their needs on a journey to healing and wellness. I have a relational style of therapy that looks to your goals, experiences and strengths in order to meet your unique needs. I work individually with adults and couples who are struggling with loss, anxiety, depression, life transitions and trauma. I will meet you where you are with empathy and intuition. I have experience working with clients across gender, ethnic, generational and religious differences and incorporate spirituality into the therapeutic process when desired by clients.
Do you need help with overcoming fears,OCD, worry, panic or anxiety? It's time to feel better! I specialize in helping you beat stress and anxiety. I use innovative, research based methods that teach you tools starting from the very first session. Together we can work to find solutions that lead to rapid relief from chronic anxiety and stress. My approach is warm and practical. I am an anxiety expert and author of "Stop Anxiety From Stopping You". I aspire to help you find solutions that lead to the life you desire and envision for yourself.
The unique experiences, expectations, and traits of each person require an individualized approach to psychotherapy. As I work with an individual my approach may include elements of modern psychoanalysis, cognitive behavior therapy, family therapy, and client centered counseling. I utilize recent research in neuro-psychology to inform the various theories of psychotherapy. Faculty members, students, and creative individuals, as well as foreign nationals and first and second generation Americans are groups with whom I have significant interest and experience. A special interest of mine is facilitating the growth of individuals who want to change long term problems with self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, anxiety and depression.
My practice supports children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing acute and/or chronic distress. For some, events like divorce, trauma, loss, and adjustment to a blended family or a new school spark symptoms. As a result, depression, anxiety, temper tantrums, mood swings, bullying, isolation, addiction, and academic failure may emerge. Many others have been living with the pain of recurrent anxiety and depression for decades. I support people as they work through these difficulties. I believe in people's capacity to grow, change, and move towards self-determined goals.
My approach to therapy is reflective, authentic and insight oriented, with an emphasis on creating a trusting and collaborative relationship. With more than 15 years experience working with individuals, couples and families, my practice is informed by clinical expertise in treating symptoms of trauma, depression, and anxiety. I also counsel for issues related to life transitions, complex relationships, intimacy, parenting, identity, grief and loss. I greet clients with openness and curiosity, engaging a process that best fits their individual needs.
*Accepting New Clients* Are you feeling overwhelmed by your constant racing thoughts and second guessing yourself? Are you feeling stuck and alone? I know from experience what it feels like to be frustrated and confused by your own inner dialogue and emotions. I work with adults and young adults who can relate to these struggles and find it difficult to express or understand what they're going through.
In psychotherapy individuals can learn techniques that help them navigate through their inner and outer struggles. These struggles may keep them feeling stuck and unfulfilled. Over my many years of practice, I have helped clients learn cognitive behavioral techniques along with psycho-dynamic principles that facilitate insightful practical change. My clinical interests lie in working with clients who are experiencing sadness, depression, anxiety, stress, interpersonal problems, and issues related to loss. Clients interested in changing their self-defeating thoughts and behaviors while relieving emotional symptoms are a good fit.

Our early childhood experiences lay the foundation for how we perceive ourselves, others, and the world. In many instances, difficult developmental experiences can impact our ability to live meaningful and satisfying lives, and it is my goal to help individuals recover from the pain of their past. I have a passion for working with individuals who look to learn more about themselves, and desire to grow mentally, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually.
Chicago Psychology Services is a group practice in the Chicago Loop. We provide evidence-based psychotherapies with a holistic approach. Not only do we treat problems, we apply practical solutions to help you lead a happier, more creative life. This means we work with you as an individual, but incorporate all aspects of your life within our treatments and assessments. We help individuals, couples and families to resolve their problems in as timely a manner as possible, bringing them insight, and peace. We also use mind-body interventions, like hypnosis, mindfulness, and biofeedback, to provide “treatment for the whole person.”
I enjoy working with clients from all different backgrounds, and I welcome anyone who is motivated to work hard to reach therapeutic goals and to create desired change in his/her life. I especially like working with relational issues, both with individual clients as well as couples and families. Having been trained in family systems, I tend to focus on relational dynamics, attachment, and family of origin influences. I have a lot of experience working with divorcing families, both with children/adolescents and adults. I believe that we can create any relationship we want, as long as we are open and committed.
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Miami University and my Master's degree in Counseling from Indiana University. I have experience in working with adults, teens, couples, families, and groups. Overall, I enjoy engaging people in psychotherapy by creating a safe, validating, and collaborative environment. I believe in taking the time to explore emotions and thoughts, while also providing people with tools to manage stress or specific symptoms. I enjoy identifying clients' strengths to help elevate them and create confidence in their ability to better manage stress.

My goal is to assist people in making sense of the changes all around us so that we can learn from them, rather than feel bogged down by them. If you've felt overwhelmed, if the things that used to get you through the day aren't cutting it anymore, and if you've realized it's time for something to change: give me a call. I work with folks navigating issues of identity and change within relationships, orientation, and spirituality. I also serve fellow therapists who have, understandably, recognized their own need for additional support in unprecedented times.
I have been working in the field of psychotherapy since 2004, helping clients cope primarily with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and life changes. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Missouri, and I taught Language Arts on the high school level for two years. As a teacher, the limits of the classroom environment prevented me from reaching many of my troubled students, which led me to pursue a graduate degree from Loyola University-Chicago in Community Counseling.
By picking up the phone and contacting a therapist, you've taken the hardest step: a coming to an awareness that you would like to affect change in your life. I believe in an interactive, dynamic approach where together we explore the history of an issue, it's effects and most importantly, institute a positive plan for change.
My priority in our therapeutic relationship is that you feel comfortable and accepted in a safe and non-judgmental environment. My objective is to work with you as a whole person, rather than just a list of issues. It is imperative to me that you feel heard and understood. I truly love being a therapist and feel privileged to be a part of my client's lives.
Whether you wish to gain clarity about a life challenge or seek to resolve a deeper change from within, our work together will present an opportunity to rework the patterns that may be disrupting your relationships or preventing you from fulfilling your life goals. I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, viewing our therapeutic relationship as central to the change process, while helping you to understand how conflicts from the past affect the way you feel in the present. I approach our work together from a genuine, empathetic stance with openness and curiosity. It is important that we are partners in your healing process.
I love helping people to have a healthy and authentic sex & relationship life whatever that means for them. Topics I often explore with clients include: dating anxiety, attachment styles, sexual trauma, creating healthy boundaries in relationships, increasing emotional intimacy, communication skills, conflict resolution, family-of-origin issues, managing relationships with difficult people, difficulty orgasming, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, exploring kink, opening the relationship, exploring sexual orientation, exploring gender identity, etc.
