As you embark on your journey, therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to explore, understand and challenge life experiences that shape our identities and perceptions of the world. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 6 years of experience providing therapy and other clinical services to individuals struggling with severe mental illness and addiction, I approach therapy from a holistic and multicultural perspective. As a Mexican and Filipino American woman, I draw on my personal experiences to better understand how cultural factors influence our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us.

I believe that difficult roads can lead to beautiful destinations. I would be honored to help you work towards your destination. My name is Karolina (she/her) and I’m so excited you are here and taking the step towards therapy, whether it’s your first time or you’re back for another go-around! Although I work with a wide range of challenges, I carry a particular interest in working with adults that present with relational issues, work stress, life transitions, and wanting to improve self-worth/self-compassion, as well as couples looking to increase intimacy, and better understand one another through their communication.

In such busy times you may be feeling tired of doing things for everyone else or doing what others want you to do. Possibly tiptoeing around everyone's feelings and ignoring your own. Maybe you grew up fast, taking care of other's needs long before you were old enough to take care of yourself. You could be reaching your limit or know it can’t go on this way. Putting everyone else first can lead to feeling exhausted, overburdened, or taken for granted. You don't have to do it on your own to have more peaceful and happy life. I learned at a young age we can overcome difficulties when we have someone to listen with care and concern.

I hope to give clients an opportunity to feel empowered and in control of their treatment. I believe that many mental health issues stem from or are exacerbated by the current cultural climate we live in. In addition, many of the beliefs we have about ourselves are learned from our families, friends, and societal influences, and those in turn affect our emotions and behaviors. In therapy, we can work together to untangle what beliefs are helping you and which ones are not.

Stressors, significant life events, and changes can create difficult feelings that can prove to be overwhelming to navigate on one’s own. Therapy can become a source of guidance and empowerment in order to feel more equipped to face and manage uncertain times. As a bicultural and bilingual therapist, I am aware of the impact of cultural influences in one’s life. In therapy, I provide tools and skills to help clients cope with difficult feelings and distressing thoughts and collaborate with clients to set goals to improve their quality of life.

We are not meant to face life’s challenges alone. Whether the challenges we face are external (a major transition, a loss) or internal (low self-worth, defeating or frightening patterns of thought) we need someone to help us acknowledge our pain, hold space for us, as well as facilitate growth and healing. Supporting you in your journey means understanding that I may be an expert in the field, but you are the only expert on you and your own life experiences.

You deserve to be loud, messy, sensitive and angry- and loved exactly for who you are. You’ve gotten used to living with your anxiety, but it’s a struggle. Things are hectic and your mind just never stops. If you’re waiting for the world to slow down, you may be waiting for a while. I know what it’s like to try to control your world through endless schedules and to-do lists, to power through, to live on auto-pilot. To ignore long-held family stories that influence how you show up in the world, to criticize yourself so harshly. Together in therapy, we can begin by helping you slow down enough and get curious about what's next.

You have been texting and calling friends to see if they can help you understand what’s going on. You have been talking to your family members to see if they can offer you any help. Although they mean well, you still don’t feel understood. You have been looking for clarity and wanting to learn more about yourself and these feelings. You feel upset and you are looking for an answer. You want to start your healing journey and do not know where to start. It can be hard to navigate these feelings on your own. You want to be able to express yourself in a space where no one can judge you.

Do you ever drive around and think to yourself about the houses you see and how nice they are? Relationships are similar in a sense in that sometimes we see relationships in our lives/media, and can sometimes influence the relationship 'goals' we wish to be. What we aren't usually privy to are the time and small moments stacked together that helped form that relationship to be what it is, much like the house. If we find ourselves constantly arguing or having 'big bad' situations, while they may be triggered in the moment, we don't usually end up there by accident. Something I like to ask is 'Do I make the most of my moments?'

Change is a process that begins with the way one thinks about things. We all experience times of darkness and deep sorrow. We experience anxiety and also struggle with life transitions. Healing comes when we take the time to share our stories, connect with our feelings, and explore our experiences. As you consider therapy, know that feelings of sadness, anxiety, shame, guilt, confusion, and longing are experienced by everyone. Processing what is troubling you can bring a sense of relief and balance. Self awareness can add purpose to your life.

Tired of therapy that overlooks the realities of surviving late-stage capitalism? Look no further. My approach is collaborative and integrative, rooted in a blend of personal experience, radical feminism, and abolitionist perspectives. I work with marginalized individuals as they navigate challenging emotions, process complex trauma, explore intersecting identities, and build healthy, meaningful relationships. Together, we’ll work toward healing from trauma created and perpetuated by interlocking systems of oppression, with a focus on empowerment, resilience, and resistance.
