My name is Jennifer and I co-own a group practice that specializes in treating complex trauma and dissociative disorders. I use an insight-oriented, relational approach with an emphasis on collaboration, connection, and empowerment. The therapeutic relationship facilitates growth by identifying and exploring both past and present patterns that keep people feeling stuck. I see therapy as a collaborative effort that allows people observe and more deeply understand themselves, their relationship patterns, and their characteristic ways of thinking and feeling.

I start with a thorough assessment of your current concerns. I take a broad-minded, non-judgmental approach to understanding what you are looking for help with. I try to be helpful by offering feedback and new perspectives and insights. I understand that you have probably already attempted several ways to address your concerns and by now you are most likely frustrated and worried. I will take a proactive and positive approach to your participation by helping you identify your personal strengths and assets that you can then use to develop a new and better response to your concerns.

A positive working alliance between a psychologist and patient is crucial for growth and development within the clinical context. Therefore, it is key for each patient to seek out a psychologist whom they feel comfortable and connected with. I offer an initial consultation at no charge in order to determine if the right fit exists. If after a consultation it does not feel like a good fit, then I will help you find a clinician who provides one. As a licensed clinical psychologist, with more than seven years of clinical experience, I have an extensive background working with adolescents, adults, and families.

It is essential that we process through your goals and the first step is allowing me to better aid you with a solution focus approach. Together we can get through anything. Talking and using guidance will better aid in decision making tools needed to move from one place to another.

I try to get neuropsych testing sessions scheduled within a couple of weeks.
During these trying times, I understand how anxiety, depression, relationship woes, physical and mental health challenges, and family strife can increase as if it's under a microscope! Individuals want and need internal working systems that help them do more than cope and survive, they need the strength and awareness to grow from trials and tribulations both within and outside of one's control.

My aim for my clients is to gain an attitude of self-compassion and an empowered mindset. I believe that, generally, we are all doing the best we can with what we have. Unfortunately, sometimes what we have are old stories or traumas deeply embedded in our minds and bodies that make it difficult to find fulfillment in ourselves and in our relationships. Together, we can create distance from such burdensome threats to our current well-being. Using a relationship-focused, psychodynamic approach, I work to help my clients untether from fears and allow them to reach their full capacity to connect, to love, and to live.

I founded the Centers for Cognitive Wellness in 2012 with the mission of providing the "what's next" to people diagnosed with cognitive challenges. Trained as a clinical neuropsychologist, I quickly grew frustrated that patients had few treatment options after receiving a diagnosis of memory loss or attention impairment, I started this practice with the purpose of filling the treatment gap for people affected by cognitive declines. I have been blessed to grow the practice while also authoring The Neuroscience of Memory and speaking regularly to professionals and organizations.

Testing and Evaluation Therapists
What is a psychological evaluation?
A psychological evaluation is a test or assessment most commonly administered by a trained psychologist that is intended to be used in the diagnosis of specific psychological conditions, such as ADHD, mood disorders, personality disorders, dementia or Alzheimer's, and learning disabilities. Psychological evaluations can help inform future treatment decisions and help direct clients to professionals and resources that may be most helpful, such as potential therapy options or additional school supports.

Can psychological evaluations be done on individuals of any age group?
Psychological evaluations are conducted on individuals of all ages and can be beneficial to individuals across the lifespan. However, specific types of evaluations may be most frequently conducted on individuals of certain age groups. For instance, ADHD or learning disability testing is often conducted in children ages 4-12--the period of time when ADHD symptoms most commonly emerge. In contrast, cognitive functioning assessments, such as those conducted to diagnose dementia, are most commonly conducted in elderly individuals. Clients should ensure that the psychologist they are seeing has specific expertise in conducting evaluations in their age group to ensure they receive a correct diagnosis.

How long does a psychological evaluation take?
Psychological evaluations vary in length depending on the test being administered and the goals of the evaluation; however, most evaluations are 2-4 hours in length. Some evaluations may take as long as 8 hours but can often be spread across multiple days. In some cases, clients will also attend an intake session or interview, which can help the psychologist assess client functioning outside of the testing environment.

How should I prepare for a psychological test and evaluation?
Individuals do not need to prepare for psychological tests or evaluations in most cases, as they are intended to measure a client's baseline psychological status without test-specific preparation. However, clients may want to brainstorm a list of questions for their psychologist about any tests they are receiving prior to the assessment, including what potential outcomes may mean for what next steps the client should take.
