While life usually has its ups and downs, and everyone encounters difficult days, sometimes things become overwhelming and therefore it makes sense to seek counseling. In fact, often it may be helpful to run a distressing situation past a professional like me, not only to allow the opportunity for an evaluation, but also to hear oneself in the presence of an outside, objective person. I have been successful with young adults, midlife and senior people. The kinds of issues may range but not be restricted to relationship concerns, employment dilemmas, parenting problems and grief associated with loss.

Seeking therapy can be a daunting experience! My desire is to first seek to understand the challenges you face, what matters most to you, and your hopes for therapy. It's important that we work together at a pace that is helpful and intentional, but not overwhelming. Over time, my compassionate, non-judgmental approach helps my clients to experience the safety needed for a meaningful therapy experience.

It’s okay not to have your life together all the time. Often, we convince ourselves that there is a linear path to our goals; we may find ourselves ruminating on the past or so apprehensive about our futures that we can begin to feel frozen and unable to live in the present. Our inner dialogue can brainwash us into believing there is something wrong with who we are and that we deserve to be alone. As your therapist, my goal is to hold space for these feelings and reassure you: it’s okay to not be okay; you are still worthy of healing.

In individual therapy, I emphasize a short-term, time-sensitive approach that is problem focused. During troublesome periods in our lives, powerful ideas about ourselves or about the world can become activated that result in our feeling anxious, sad or depressed. Relief comes from replacing these notions with a more realistic perception of our circumstances and ourselves. A principal goal of this approach is assist clients to learn how to become their own therapist, thereby preventing relapse and decreasing dependence on therapy or when appropriate medications.

As we grow and develop as humans, we often find ourselves confronted by issues from the past – issues we may have thought long-resolved. These issues can manifest in our relationship dynamics, our perceptions about ourselves, and our means of coping with our environment. My role is to join you in confronting these things so that you can integrate and learn the lessons these past experiences are meant to teach you. In our work together, you are the expert. You decide what your experiences mean and how they impact the person you are.

Relationships are challenging and trauma, depression, anxiety, PTSD, worry, shame and guilt are just some of the things that can hinder you from not only achieving a healthy relationship but also being the best version of yourself. As a Couples and Family therapist I help individuals, couples and families achieve relationship satisfaction, gain a deeper understanding of self and each other and heal from wounds that are negatively impacting the ability to heal. I believe that each individual in a relationship has their own individual thoughts and beliefs that are impacted by childhood and the families we are born into.

We live in a stressful, complex, and contradictory world. And though you do your best to cope with the chaos around you, sometimes it gets overwhelming. The chaos can make you question your decisions - sometimes it can even make you question who and how you are. Why are there so many obstacles to the life and relationships you want? Shouldn’t there be a clearer path? It can be so hard to navigate through the noise. Craving to connect more fully but end up feeling needy and more alone. Wanting to feel safe, but unease grows and bleeds through. Striving to be authentic, but there is so much noise it is hard to hear your true self.

We live in a fast-paced, increasingly abbreviated, and relentlessly future-oriented society that upholds certain life trajectories and promises swift and universal solutions to all of our problems. However, during our darkest hours, things can take a disorienting turn when we try to make sense of all of the moving pieces. We find this world of contradictions overwhelmingly turbulent and polluted with uncertainty. We isolate, we reach out, we give up, we try to survive- the answer is never clear. Life becomes exhausting, suffocating and at times, unbearable.

Hello. I am a person-centered therapist. I specialize in supporting people in long-term recovery from addiction. Phase one of treatment is focused on changing the problematic behavior(s). Phase two involves a process of self-reflection and finding ways to meet the needs that the addiction had previously been intended to address. I am a Certified Group Psychotherapist and I offer several online therapy groups. Seeing you that you are not alone in your challenges can be a powerfully healing experience. Beyond that, group members offer each other practical advice as well as ongoing emotional support.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
