When
couples
and families can find a secure haven within themselves, counting on each other and learning how to adjust, the changes can occur.
Every individual carries their own inner wounds that need to be dealt with. I believe therapy can help us progress on our healing journey. When we are empathetically understood and listened to, we discover our hidden strengths as resources and are empowered to better understand and relate to ourselves and those around us. When we start to see our originally rigid pattern of thoughts from multiple angles, we will have a greater capacity to understand situations we find ourselves in more objective ways.

My ideal client is you. I enjoy supporting clients as they work to overcome a variety of presenting issues, steering away from pathology, and meeting them where they are in their process for change. My approach is person-centered, collaborative, and goal-oriented. My clinical interests include communication issues with
couples
and families, infidelity, substance use, and adults in transition. I am passionate about working with women of color, Black women in particular. My practice is sex-positive, LGTBQ+ and kink-affirming.

Every person deserves to be valued for who they are and where they are in life. Life challenges can lead us to feel disconnected from ourselves. There can be great value in reclaiming our entire selves, with all we have been through and currently face, while stepping into the unknown. Being truly witnessed can help us reconcile our realities, regain hope, and remember our gifts. I wish to honor your life by offering a warm, accepting haven for you to exist, unpack, discover, heal, and co-create your life in light of who you are and the unique opportunities and challenges you experience. You deserve to feel at home with yourself.

I have experience working with depression and anxiety, LGBTQ Issues, trauma,
relationship
/
couples
therapy, perfectionism and overwhelming career expectations, addiction and substance abuse, as well as family of origin concerns.
I assist clients with developing awareness and curiosity about how they have learned to navigate relationships and cope with painful experiences. I see the emotions that underlie these “default” responses as complex and physiological. By engaging with and expressing their full range of emotions, I support clients in increasing congruence across important areas of their life - something critical to finding purpose and forming meaningful connections in our relationships. Thus, I aim to help clients reorganize how they understand themselves through insight, attuned emotional awareness and increased interpersonal effectiveness.

I know
relationship
and intimacy struggles are a sensitive topic to discuss with your closest friends, let alone a virtual stranger.
Relationships can be a powerful source of fulfillment to draw from in our lives. Miscommunication, old patterns, unrealistic expectations and daily stress sometimes step in, preventing them from providing that happiness and strength. Therapy can break down barriers to improve communication, decrease conflict and increase emotional and physical intimacy. I specialize in the respectful treatment of
relationship
and sexual concerns, utilizing an open, honest, and sex-positive approach to help assess your unique personal goals and assist you in developing more positive and fulfilling relationships- with yourself and with partners.

We all struggle at times. Although we try our best to manage, sometimes our struggles are more than we can handle. It is at these times that we most need someone to be there for us; someone who can be genuine, non-judgmental, and supportive; someone who will listen and accept us. It is at these times that we often find it hardest to ask for help, yet need it the most. I have been helping people during these difficult times for the past five years.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
