I have seen clients from many walks of life who have come into therapy for a variety of reasons. These include things such as wanting to connect with others, grief over the loss of someone or something important, traumatic experiences, or general feelings of sadness and worry. The clients who get the most out of working with me are those who come to sessions with a willingness to speak openly and vulnerably about themselves, as well as a willingness to consider different ways of thinking. Through open conversation, my hope is that clients become empowered to take a proactive approach to therapy and life in general.

Let's be real, life is tough sometimes. You keep your head down and try to get through the day, only to be up at night fighting worries that won’t let go. You are stressed out, overwhelmed, and have little energy. Everything you do to try and be in control of your anxiety isn’t working, the intrusive and unwanted thoughts just keep coming. You can’t remember the last time you felt good. It’s difficult to know where to start, or how to sort it out on your own. Even though you’re feeling stuck, you sense the possibility that things could be different. Reconnecting to what makes life meaningful is not as far away as it might seem.

Are you someone who tries to solve problems on your own? If so, you're probably good at it. But it can get lonely. People may assume you’re okay, even when you’re struggling. While these patterns of self reliance might have supported you in the past, they may be keeping you from becoming the best version of yourself. No matter what you are struggling with, therapy can help you understand these patterns and leave behind what is keeping you from thriving.

Consideration of entering therapy can feel like an overwhelming task, especially if you are struggling, feeling like "nothing will change", in transition or have been hurt in previous relationships. I provide a safe, trusting and non-judgmental environment in which we work together on your challenges. While I bring knowledge and experience to our work, you are the expert on you: your goals and feedback on the process will drive our work together. Clients have provided me with excellent feedback, stating that I am open, empathic and good-natured about the difficulties of change.

I'm accepting new clients via telehealth throughout Illinois and Colorado! It can be overwhelming to feel like you’ve lost yourself. Does it feel like the ‘you,’ inside might not live up to the ‘you,’ that lives, breathes, and presents yourself out in the world? When neither feels like the authentic person that you want to be, it’s difficult to know where to ask for help, what is wrong, what’s off balance, or even where to begin. Life is full of challenges ranging from small bumps in the road to extreme detours, but wherever you are at, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I’m excited the journey has led you here.

My intention as a therapist is to normalize the therapeutic process, show up as authentically as I can, and work with folks that are open to change, healing, and trusting the process. As a bilingual (Spanish) therapist and member of the Latinx community, I am passionate about supporting and witnessing individuals most impacted by systematic oppression, and that triumph adversity, to lead the lives they strive for. I am a big believer that therapy should be a journey, in which clients feel safe enough in our relationship that they can show up as they need to with authenticity and free of judgment.

One of the beautiful things I have the privilege of witnessing as a therapist is the ever-evolving changes and awareness clients develop throughout their healing and growth process. I fully believe that each and every one of us is worth investing the work within ourselves when we develop the courage to seek help. I consider the therapeutic relationship with clients to be a team effort towards reaching the client’s desired goals and outcomes in a safe, non-judgmental space.

My clients experience me as empathetic, motivating, and professional when combined create a safe space and therapeutic environment. It is an absolute honor that people trust me, and I try my best to serve them adequately in a non-judgmental space. There’s a proverb that says “you may be lost, but you are not defeated.” Many people seek therapy for a variety of reasons and the mere fact of their initiative shows they may be lost but they won’t give up. I have a desire to help others discover the parts of themselves that were hidden, isolated, or maybe even afraid.

As a psychotherapist, I bring extensive clinical experience working with clients of all ages who have faced various forms of racial trauma, particularly within Black and immigrant-of-color communities. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to provide therapy in both individual and collective settings, including but not limited to colleges and universities, a level-one trauma center, IOP/PHP programs, and private practice. Guided by a holistic and integrative approach, I view the mind, body, and spirit as interconnected, recognizing the profound impact they have on our well-being and relationship to the world.

We are all works in progress and the world around us can steer us in the wrong direction. I strive to work with my clients to find the most rewarding path and the healthiest balance of one’s needs, through learning more about oneself, others, and the world around us. It is essential to find a therapist that makes you feel validated, respected, and acknowledged by honoring your intersectional identities. As such, I strive to embody this in the therapeutic approaches that I use with my clients to uniquely address their presenting concerns.

How can I find a therapist in Loop, Chicago?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
